What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

I don't think I the Outdoor Channel - at least not one that runs movies. After a little checking around I found it ("Always") is streaming on YouTube, so I'll catch it there.
Usually The Outdoor Channel doesn't run movies. We were surprised to see Always airing, so we watched it. Glad we did.

"The Philadelphia Story" with Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn and James Stewart. JS ran away with it... he won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance.

Interesting bit I learned about this: Grant agreed to play the part only if he were afforded top billing and that his salary would be $137,000, which he donated to the British War Relief Society.

Good for him! The film was released December 26, 1940, so GB was really in the thick of the war.

After hearing about The Last Picture Show for Decades, I finally watched it tonight on Prime. Good movie, great acting, and terrific screenwriting (I've been a Larry McMurtry fan since Lonesome Dove).
God, I loved that film! The mood it sets, the portrayal of small town Texas, it's total honesty-- all both totally bowled me over, and drew me into that slice of time like few movies I've ever seen.

I made the mistake of seeing it in a London cinema when it came out while on tour with a band from the States. It made me so homesick, I wanted to pack up and go home.

Most impressive were the great Cloris Leachman in an emotionally soul bearing portrayal of a middle aged frustrate woman; and Ben Johnson as the wise town businessman with a past. They both won Oscars for their work. A great motion picture!!

I borrowed the original "Fail Safe" from my library. The cast included Walter Matthau, Henry Fonda, and a very young Larry Hagman.

I'd read the book about 15 years ago so knew the plot line and ending, but nevertheless found it riveting.

Very moving. Very imaginative. Must have cost a lot to make.
I never heard of this movie. British from 1946.

The storyline reminds me of a much more recent film, Albert Brooks's Defending Your Life. He dies young in a car crash and gets taken to a kind of purgatory where they hold a trial of your life to decide if you'll move on in the universe or go back to earth and try again. I've seen it 5 or 6 times. Highly recommended.

I thought of Defending Your Life also. But this is not a comedy but more of a fantasy.
But it's more like a thin line between the fantasy story being presented and whether or not it's all just illusion inside David Niven's mind.

I don't believe I've seen that one either. Might check it out.
Another great fantasy type film David Niven made the next year is perfect viewing for the Holidays. Co-stars Cary Grant and Loretta Young. I've seen it 6-7 times.
The Bishop's Wife. It's available for free on YouTube.

Looked it up on IMDB, it got a high rating (8-something) so I'm going to try and watch it. Do you know if it's streaming?
