What was your handle?

Remember when CBs were so popular? At one time, when we had two cars, each car a CB in it, plus we had a base in the house.
i was Easy Rider, my wife was Tinker Bell, my daughter was Penelope, my son Buffalo Bill and my youngest son was Superman. We had one of those power mics which I think was illegal, not sure. :cool1:

Never got into CBs here, but we do have two walkie-talkies hubby and I use when we're out camping in the wilds, and decide to go our separate ways. We don't use them that much, but so far I'm Little Bear, and he's Big Bear. ;)

Geeze, NOW you ask ! I can't even think about what it was.

Had the unit in the car with the antenna on the trunk ("Boot" to you Brits, Aussies, NZs)

Then, when we got the motorhome, I transferred the CB to that. Enjoyed it and found it useful.

Funniest transmission we heard from a woman: "Hey all you horny truckers out there,

I'm under the neon light at the gas station on Rte ** at the 37 mile marker."

You've reminded me of the scanner we used to listen to when I worked in a science lab in the seventies. One time, heard a couple having . . . well, what would be called cybersex today. Hilarious. OVER.

My handle was "moondoggie"..

Boy does that ever bring back some memories..

I had a CB in the car and one in the house..
Please don't laugh but I was the only one using the units so I couldn't contact the house as the unit was off and no one knew how to use it.....

I guess you could call the CB the first cell phone. Every night the conversation would go something like this:
Breaker, breaker, Hey Tinker bell, got your ears on? Then the wife would reply: On the 5(route number she took home) right now. Be back at the nest in 10.
Conversation was pretty much the same, just like a cell.

Funny, I remember as a young teen and showing off, I put a 7 foot whip antenna on my Ford bumper and when people walk/drive by I would pretend to be talking on a hand held old telephone. People thought that was amazing Im talking to someone on the phone.

Mine was Sundown, and we all had a CB in the vehicle, and usually one at home. (My kids each had one, too---they were all grown by then). I loved the CB, and it was great for getting road reports from truck drivers talking to each other.
For personal talk, we always went to one of the sideband channels, so we didn't interrupt the trucker channel. With the power mike, and hi-power cb, we could usually talk for quite a ways to each other.
When we needed to know something (next gas station?), and no one answered, it was my turn to get on the cb and ask, since the truckers ALWAYS answered me right away.

One time, I took my friend from Spokane to California to visit her elderly mother, the head gasket blew on the way, and we had to putt along at about 35-40 mph the whole trip, adding water frequently. The truck drivers were grumbling to each other about "that slow-poke Datsun pickup" until I explained why we were going so slow, and then they were very courteous, and offered to help; but there wasn't anything they could do. It was just a slow trip , but the cb sure helped.
Sometimes, I miss those days of being on the road a lot, and talking on the CB.

Friend of mine gave me a ride home from work once and when the traffic jammed she got on her cb and asked the truckers what was up. Sure a lot better then waiting around for some yahoo in the news chopper. Don't remember her handle but am sure it was nice to hold on to . . .

I had a mobile and home base. Had Heaters on both of them. Mine was Scarlett O'Hara. Met my husband on the CB. My he was such a charmer, his handle was Foxfire. We ended up getting married three years later. It did not work out though.:playful:

We had a CB in the house and one in the car. They were very popular back many years ago.
My handle was Sunflower and my husband's was Caterpillar because at his job at that time
he was a bulldozer operator. I had to think for a minute to remember the names.
