Not absolutely sure but think it was Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley and the Comets. Wait. Couldn't have been the first because it wasn't released until I was 15. Surely I bought something else before then? Maybe it was Sh-Boom. It was released the summer I was 13. That sounds about right.
as i was the youngest of 5, i also had all the music from my siblings
i remember my eldest sister playing " Downtowm" by Petula Clark
and my eldest brother, playing his LP ...Bridge over troubled waters by simon and Garfunkel

I was 10 years old and I bought the Tommy Steele Story no 2 EP. Got it at Heathrow airport if I remember correctly. Mam and I were going to join dad in Kuwait and I knew he had bought a record player, something we'd never had in the UK, so I think I must have just bought the first record I saw. 
To this day, one of my favorites!

Wow! I have no idea. I'm sure it was a 78 because that was the only record player we had back then.

Dickie Goodman - his is a sad story. Today, you could compare him to Weird Al Yankovic, who got stinking rich off his parodies. Instead, Goodman got sued every time he turned around and totally ripped-off by the taxman. It drove him to suicide.

The first record I bought was an album, the New York Philharmonic performing Mozart's "Eine Kliene Nachtmusik".
The reason is because I used to listen to it with my grampa when I was a kid. After Gramps died, my gramma gave me his 78, but I had to buy the 33 1/3 because my stereo didn't play 78s. And also because you couldn't find a radio station that played a lot of Mozart, but it was no problem finding plenty of rock and R&B and stuff.
I was 17, I think.
