What was your very first record you bought and how old was you !!

Not sure which one was the first but had to be Carol King-Tapestry, Joni Mitchell-For the Roses, Janis Joplin- Pearl
Neil Young-After the Gold Rush, Cat Stevens-Tea for the Tillerman, or Seals and Croft -Summer Breeze.

Yup, Hippy Flower Child, Age 13
Tapestry Love it !!

An album by the Association (with the song Cherish on it). But let me tell the REST of the story. Remember when those record clubs said to send a penny and get X number of albums. At my young, uninformed, age...I did not understand the CLUB part of the deal...buying more records, and paying full price.
When mom caught wind of this, she got mad at me, of course, and had to call their Customer Service fuss at them for selling records like this to a 11 year old etc. She got them to cancel the membership.

Columbia Record House, or something like that, right?

The first record I bought was a 45 single "I want to hold your hand" by the Beatles. I was eight years old. Good times. :giggle:

I used to buy a lot of singles when I was a kid because there was a great record store in my hometown owned by a musician who later died and is buried next to my grandparents so I see his tombstone every time I go to the cemetery to put flowers on theirs. He was a great guy who gave the gift of music to so many of us little kids because we were so young we didn't want to buy entire albums with our allowances. Singles were much more affordable for us. I'll never forget this.

Singles were $1.06 with tax when I was a kid. And you could stack them on the record player so they would drop when ready.

Yes, I remember them falling in a stack. My, that brings back memories. Singles were less than a dollar each back then and we had no sales in my state at that time so we ended up with great music and extra cash for movies and candy bars. Could it get any better?

Probably around 1959-60 ish. I bought three cheap, off brand LP albums by Ray Charles, Charlie Parker, and Della Reese. Had them for years but they're gone now.

I can't remember the first single I bought but it was probably summer holiday by Cliff Richards or one of his songs, my friends and I had a huge crush:love: it makes me laugh now. My first album was Meet the Beatles in mono which I still have. I've carted it around with me from England many moons ago.
