I was a good kid for the most part. I enjoyed helping my mom around the house but recall didn't like sweeping the basement steps. Was taught to clean at an early age. I used to stand on a chair to wash the dishes. I helped with taking care of my baby sister, too. Like some others here I rebelled somewhat when I hit the teenage years. Ran away from home a few times, too, but only for a short time like a day. I was shy, too.
Quiet, unassuming. Grew up in a rural neighborhood. Love sports, especially baseball and basketball. By my teens a was a shade over 6 ft and only weighed about 155. Went from high school into the military, married before I finished my hitch and still with the same wife, our flock of off-spring and keeping out of trouble in my mid-80's. No radical change in my personality.
Because of my parents I grew up very confident in myself. Looking back I might have been a little bossy with my friends and they followed whatever I wanted to do. I guess you can say I was the leader of the pact. The only time I ever lost my temper was when someone bothered my older sister. I would defend her anytime someone bothered her.
Every report card I ever got said, "daydreams in class," so I guess I did that. I still made good grades up to a point because I was a good reader and that gives kids an advantage in most subjects, although not so much in math and chemistry as I discovered later. I did come awake on weekends and loved all the dances and parties and never missed a basketball game.
I was quiet, shy and gave my parents no trouble except that I hated school. I would leave for school and when I got half way there I'd turn around and come home. One time my Mom decided I could stay home if I did housework. Unfortunately for her I enjoyed every minute of it and asked to do it again.
Once in high school I cut classes on a regular basis. We had a very large school and little quiet, shy me wasn't missed. Somehow I got through it all.
I was very lucky to find a nursing school who gave the entrance exam based on the health field. I was very interested in medicine and was able to pass it with no problem. Finally I enjoyed going to school.
I was a diplomat. I had to be as my folks bought and sold homes. We moved every couple of years, new neighborhoods, new kids to meet, new schools. Looking back, it sucked.
