What would you have done?

I was in line today to fill a prescription. There was another person behind me. The woman in front of me was on her phone when she was summoned up to the counter. The pharmacist asked her name, then her birthdate but she continued her phone conversation while the pharmacist and the rest of us waited. I finally yelled "come on". She finally told whoever she was talking to that she needed to hang up. The pharmacist looked shocked that I said that, but I just thought the whole thing was very rude. What would you have done?

I would have done the same as you... How rude people are sometimes.. I don't stand for it when it's affecting my day ..they can go be rude on someone else's time not mine

I hate to say it but I see it more often that people have no patience for the older generation. Young people often get ugly if they are waiting behind someone who is older. We often have questions, some still write a check, some have a hard time loading their groceries on the counter walk to slow, maybe stall and block an aisle. That is what really bothers me!! Do they not stop to think that could be my parents, my grandparents, for goodness sake have a little patience. And yes, I will turn around and say that exact thing to them. Their eyes go wide, they apologize and shut the f*** up.

We have found young people tend to ignore us, they will deal with other young people and pretend we don't exist. I've had young people make fun of my age, To that I tell them "If you are very lucky you will make it to my age!".

sadly yes, this has become more and more noticeable to me. I said this before on this forum not long ago. I don't look like a pensioner... I look young for my age, always have, but if I'm being ignored now.. then goodness knows what people 20 years older than me are having to endure.. . makes me mad!!

I agree. Everyone is so uptight and in a hurry and always stressed. And people are rude and only think of themselves and what they want/need not caring about holding everyone else up. It's crazy.
I remember reading somewhere that the stress levels of the average teenager today is the same level as the average mentally ill patient 60 years ago. Everyone seems to be so on edge and teetering on the edge of a breakdown. It doesn't take much to push people over.

I never cease to be amazed at how enveloped so many people are in their own electronic cocoons. I have been in face-to-face conferences with people when their unmuted cell phone rings, and they answer it! As I’ve seen a bumper sticker declare, “Hang up the d**n phone, and drive!” It becomes a matter of prioritizing reality and the ongoing physical world, and for too many that has gone on the back burner…

I do not confront self-absorbed cell phone users, however. They might next withdraw a gun, something else that is in too abundant supply in these United States…

I'd *like* to say that I would speak up, but in all honesty, I'd probably stand there like a wimp... simmering under the surface. If it went on extra long, she'd probaby hear me muttering something under my breath. Plus, this made me wonder... you, as a man yelling "come on" made her put the phone away. Would I have gotten the same response from her as a woman.... or a verbal lashing/obscenities?

Come to think of it... I think you're in your mid 60s as I am... would her reaction have been different if you'd been 80? I think too much for 6:30 in the morning... but it's interesting to ponder.

Nothing

I'm retired

Got time

Takes a whole bunch more than that to rile me
I have to admit, because I have lower lumbar problems I find it diffult to stand in one place for any length of time with severe pain, so if I'm standing in a queue getting held up unnecessarily by someone who couldn't care less who they're inconveniencing , I would be impatient about it too..

I get that
Some friends of mine use power chairs for that very reason

Although I have patience, this woman was disrespectful. While she chattered on the phone, she not only made the pharmacist wait but also other clients. While I wouldn't have yelled at her, I would have touched her on the shoulder and asked her to respond to the pharmacist so that the rest of us could fill our prescriptions. Some people simply lack consideration, while others are are absorbed in their own worlds and need a little push to wake up.
