What's better store bought or homemade?

My grandma baked pies that should have been in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.....they were that beautiful. Gigantic golden-brown edifices, dripping juices and sparkling with sugared tops.

She wouldn't settle for a plain pie top, oh, no...….they were latticed and pierced and decorated with cutouts. And the insides? Oh, my heavens, the fillings were food for the gods. If the recipe called for a cup of sugar, she put in 1 1/2 cups or more. Pecan pies had enough pecans for two pies, cherry pies were made with fresh cherries from the tree in her yard, she was fussy about her apples. There were lemon cream and banana cream pies with meringue half-way to the sky.

I want to weep when I think of those pies.

The "pie gene" passed me up.

I think it's a gift!

I like homemade. I know it's healthier but also tastier and I enjoy it more because of that. Some things I buy taste good but I always wonder what they've put in it?

Yes. The substitutions and added things that don’t need to be listed in the ingredients label since they are under a certain amount. Anyone with severe allergies could actually die.

Your post makes me hungry.

Gluten free is much better homemade than store bought and much cheaper. The rest of the family has their favorite store bought as well as homemade. Some things you can't duplicate. I've never tasted or made a homemade cookie like an Oreo or a Fig Newton. Homemade bread is much more flavorful than store bought but for a sandwich I still like store bought white or rye.

My mom didn’t bake much or cook much but I sure do and there is no store bought anything that trumps my homemade.

We love pancakes from IHOP

Hmmmm, homemade or IHOP

I make most things I desire-I know what's in them,that way,PLUS they're cooked/baked/fried JUST how I like them.....but,I really DO adore 'Greggs' sausage rolls...

I find store bought desserts, cakes, cookies and pies to be WAY too sweet. 😖 It’s the primary reason why I prefer to make my own desserts...I can tweak the sweetness to be just the way I like!

I enjoy both.

I do believe that over the years we have eaten so many commercial products that many have now become the standard. It's kind of amusing that we have gone from trying to make things just like mom or grandma used to make and now try to recreate the foods produced by various enormous food conglomerates like the folks at Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Pepperidge Farms, etc...

I love homemade slaw that's sweet like KFCs. They're chicken really went downhill over the years, though.

The biscuits suck too. The mashed with gravy and the slaw are still good. Maybe they should offer that as a vegetarian special. 😆
We've never tried their biscuits, but a couple of years ago was the last time we did takeout there, and we swore up and down that we would never go back, and we haven't.

Was always nice in the past when time was at such a premium to be able to stop-in, place an order, and walk out with a bucket of chicken to take to a family get-together at the lake, etc.

We never did it often, but on those busy, hectic days, it was a blessing to have something more tasty and enjoyable than fast-food burgers.

The one we had in Newton did for a while. They got rid of it finally cuz it flopped and expanded the restaurant more.
A much better business move IMO getting rid of the buffet and keeping it a straight-forward take out or eat-in establishment.
