What's for dinner ( or lunch )

Well wasting food is not good, but so is wasting time, effort, and more good food trying to avoid waste.

For example bought some swordfish that was absolutely horrible. It wasn't spoilt, did not smell off, but it didn't cook correctly and neither the taste or texture was acceptable. Being a life long fisher of both fresh and salt I am fussy. And truthfully we don't eat leftovers for dinner, lunch yes, but not dinner.

My buddy (of Scottish decent) whom was staying w us wanted to try to salvage it for another meal. I told him point blank neither my wife nor me would be eating whatever he cobbled together and please feed the fish to the coyotes. Thankfully he got the msg, coyotes and magpies were happy though!
:) Food for coyotes and magpies is not wasted food.

that made me laugh because I'm Scottish, but there's no way I'm keeping food that's suspect, :D

Roasting a spaghetti squash which are cultivars of Cucurbita pepo subsp. pepo.

I will saute that up w some garlic and oil. Along w that a summertime version of chicken parmesan and salad.

Chicken cutlets are lightly breaded(no flour) w Italian bread crumbs and shallow fried in olive oil to a browned, but underdone state. I put some fresh basil, slices of home grown tomatoes on the cutlets, slices of low moisture mozzeralla on the tomato and then bake in the oven till the cheese is bubbly and browned which completes the cooking of the chicken.

1pm PDT Saturday 10/14/2023 and just finished consuming a whole 6 ounce can of black olives that had been on a cupboard shelf for at least a couple years. Actually went down well but now need to wonder for awhile about eating something more?

Came back from the grocery store laden with fresh produce. The vacation in Maui was heavenly but grocery store prices were very high, with produce prices in the stratosphere. Apples $3-$4/lb and sad apples, at that. Romaine lettuce - $6.00/pound so roughly $7.00 per head. Bananas $2.00/lb, cucumbers $2.40/lb. And so forth. Everything has to come 3,000 miles across the ocean, so I understand why it's all so costly.

Even so, while I'm very sad to have left that beach paradise, it was a giant relief to see CA produce & grocery prices again.

At my specialty produce store today I spent $28.06 on:
5.2 lbs Honey Crisp apples
1.1 lb asparagus
1.2 lb green bell pepper
1.7 lb red bell pepper
5 lbs carrots
1 bunch (stalk) celery
1 bunch cilantro
.75 lb dragon fruit
2 heads romaine lettuce
1 lb mushrooms
1.5 lbs peaches
.93 lb black plums
2.7 lb zucchini
10 lb russet potatoes
10 oz grape tomatoes

Made myself a big salad for lunch!

It's late 1.30am..and I've broken all my rules and just eaten chocolate....
Oh gawd, I just ate 3 brownies. Feel awful!
I TRY to not eat more than a little bit of chocolate in any given day and not any after about 5 pm, but miss the mark on both more often that I'd like to admit. After a falter, I pay dearly for my crime. The sentence may only be a few hours long, but it's a wickedly uncomfortable one.

Hugs to you both... This sister knows whereof you speak. 🤗🤗🤗

I'm down 2-1/2 lbs from the 4 lb gain in Maui. The joy and memories of indulging during that vacation are worth the pain, but there will undoubtedly be a backslide today. We're taking TGS later this morning through late tomorrow morning, giving DS & DDIL some time off. They're expecting another baby boy in a few months.

Here's the backslide: DD and family are coming over for dinner and for their kids to spend time with their little cousin. DGD (8) is completely smitten with him and is fabulous at keeping him entertained. Dinner with them is always later in the evening, and more food and more calorically dense than my usual dinner, even when I'm not trying to pull off a couple of pounds.

Tomorow morning's tale of the scale will tell. Such is life, right?
