What's for dinner ( or lunch )

My navel orange tree. It's in the back corner of the yard.

When my late husband and I lived in Riverside, CA, we had a navel orange tree like that in our back yard. Every January/February it produced huge, juicy oranges and there were a ton of them. I always took a bag full to work for my co-workers. Hubby kept a slow drip on it all year round. Riverside, back in the day, was nothing but orange groves until the builders came in and the land was worth more for houses then oranges. Such a shame.

Where I live a lot of people have orange and lemon trees in their yards. With this year's enormous crop following a heavy rain year, we've realized how profoundly our tree was affected by the previous multi-year drought and stingy watering.

I'll talk to DH about a drip system for it. Thanks for the tip. Will also look into professional pruning beyond what our gardener can do.

Sautéed Sea scallops , potato pancakes and sour cream, and either cole slaw or a fresh spinach salad or both-
and a nice piece of cake. I am going to also start prepping for tomorrow's crock pot meal, to cook while I am at church- If I go-
our services are finally back on line at Facebook and U tube, so, if bad weather ,many of us seniors in the hills can stay home.

It is sunny outside and my neighbor just had to plow my driveway ends, not the whole driveway but the wind is going to be the main problem here for today and tomorrow.

This is not what I’m eating but I thought it was an interesting menu for Burns’ Night (January 25th)

Oh yummmmmy.... I'd forgotten burns night was so close... Our local pub does a Haggis Neeps and tatties lunch all through January, until Burns' night, so I must try and get there in the next couple of days....

My wife and I have been eating oatmeal for lunch or dinner for the past 30 years. Many of our friends praise us for this simple and healthy diet. What we don't tell them is that we supplement this oatmeal with chocolate, fruit, berries, nuts and cookies. I think they are beginning to suspect that our every lunch is a belly feast.

Today, for lunch I had a 'Burns Supper'..at the pub..

The supper consists of Haggis , Neeps ( turnip or swede) and tatties (mashed).. which is the traditional Scottish Dish..

The haggis was made in a whisky sauce..

Had a couple crappy cans of tuna aka cat food hanging around so i threw together a tuna noodle casserole tonight. I don't add cheese and make my own sauce.

Also working on chili rellenos which are a pia. So far I have blackened the chilis on the grill, peeled the outer skin, seeded them and stuffed w grated cheese. They are skewered and set on a rack and then into the freezer over night so they'll be ready to batter and fry tomorrow night.

These are an effort to make, but picked up a few GREAT tips off Rick Bayless.

Made a cheeseburger, with pepper jack cheese, onion, tomato and lettuce, and a side of glazed carrots.
Boy do I have a taste for a cheeseburger 🍔 I have to defrost the ground turkey. Maybe tomorrow then.

Tonight I will surely have a salad. Cucumber and tomato 🍅 in sour cream. Then probably a sandwich like chicken and avocado 🥑 and cheese 🧀.
