What's happening in your town? Police Blotters.

Every now and then, I check out the police blotter for the town/county near where I live. It's an interesting read, lol. It's a case-by-case summary of the calls the police receive.

One person is listed numerous times every week for "Trespass" at WalMart and Safeway. I assume this person has shoplifted in the past and been banned from those stores but keeps showing up, the police are called, and she is told to leave the property, cited for Trespass. Again and again. Must be on first name basis with the LEO's.

Lots and lots of stray dogs picked up and transported to the local pound. Lots and lots of trash dumped near a local park, which is reportedly cleaned up and a couple of days later, another report at the same location. Homeless welfare checks. The same names appear over and over.

If there was no/less homeless population and more responsible dog owners, the police could spend much of their time at a local donut shoppe. Except I don't think we have a donut shoppe. (Tongue in cheek, as I have the greatest respect for our LEO's.)

Have you checked your local police blotter, if one is available? Interesting read (*shakes head*).

I'm gonna go play with the dog.

LOL..I wish we had something like that here.. I'd love to read what's happening....

Mrs jones wrote a naughtty word on twitter...send 6 police officers and a snarling dog...

Mr Smith called his neighour a hurty word... send armed officers, 2 snarling dogs...

Mrs and Mrs gray... were robbed in their home, had a knife held to their throat, and their car stolen.....--- - All police officers take holiday leave !

My home city had a great system you could find out quickly any activity.
The place I live now does not have a good system is days or week behind. We had a car smash into gate of the community I live in knocked over public traffic light and signs so big damage and driver got out then ran away. I saw 6 cop cars to track him down. yet when looking at the badly maintained blotter had zero information of what caused it? was person being chased? ... run from crash because bigger crimes involved?

we will never know because I spent four days looking at blotter ... Nothing

the local rag stopped any and all crime reprts here, several years back...
local wags did not want to see any "negative" news stuff...only eception
is a murder perhaps....and yet the jail is full......
That’s what we had too. You could even see a pattern to the movement of the crimes. Now it’s just the bigger stuff and maybe not even that.

I read the local social media posts to learn what happened.

My City encloses a newsletter with the monthy water bill that shows how many calls to 911 for the month, how many arrests, and other general information like that, but details like those in the OP are not published here.

The annoying thing about not getting local news now, and that includes no local newspaper either any longer .. is we're not forewarned of any crimes, or places or people to avoid etc....

Instead we have to reply on reports from regular people on the neighborurhood app.. or FB..well not everybody uses those..

That might work for apples or bananas, but the thugs band together. Then you have spineless city governments that allow the police to be publically rediculed, offer no bail release to reavl criminals and refuse to stand for and enforce commence authority. I personally believe our law enforcement as well as all first responder deserve two main things 1. legitimate respect from all of us, and 2. government that doesn't pander to thugs and career criminals.

Where are you from, Rider?

I just checked our local paper and it names several people for speeding, someone for "dogs at large," and a young woman for public intoxication. That's a big week for our town.

One town especially here does it on FB too, but it's not the Police it's the people who live there.
Taking photos of people asking "Does anyone know THIS person???????" "I heard lots of sirens
on such and such street just now What's Going On ??????"
Stuff like that over and over. Like they sit staring out their window waiting for a chance to gossip
and be the 1st to post it. I have to wonder if they have a betting pool going on.

One of the main reasons I rarely go onto FB anymore.
The only positive post I saw, was someone announcing to go to the overpass on the interstate
to pay honor to a fallen LEO who was being taken to his final resting place.

I know. I've never belonged to FB and I wish so many of our local churches didn't have their websites on it.

Taking photos of people on the street sounds so invasive. When we lived in the country some woman called the police on my son just for walking down the road. He was wearing flimsy shorts and a tank-top, what crime did she think he was going to commit? The policeman "pulled him over," and questioned him nicely, saying he needed to get more exercise himself, but it still upset my son enough not to walk anymore.

I was infuriated. I went to the woman's house and spoke to her very sweetly about how my son was just getting some exercise at my suggestion, and how he said to tell her he was very sorry if he frightened her (which was true because he's nice like that) but all the time I was talking to her, saying polite things to her, I let my eyes flash pure fury. I think I scared her. I hope so anyway.

So many take their assumptions for truth it seems. If she felt threatened all she had to do was go in and lock her door and see if your
son just kept on walking. She did damage to herself, your son, you and her credibility with the police. So unnecessary.

Is the local paper actually publishing names of the alleged offenders, or just reporting certain apprehensions that have recently occurred in the community? Newspapers must be careful not to present an accusation as a proven fact to avoid libel, and should be using terms like "accused" or "alleged."

He had walked on past by the time she went inside to call. She told me, the reason she called was her dogs were barking more than usual. Of course that would have been because she was out side with them, I expect.

Yes, they really publish the names. I was shocked when I first moved to this town. So someone going a few miles over the speed limit has the embarrassment of their name in the paper.

If someone wants general information about what is going on in the neighborhood or city, the app Pulse Point, will give you location on a map and a general title of the incident, like medical emergency, house fire, car accident, etc.

I live in a small north western town in Australia with popn of approx 3000 - half Indigenous and half non-Indigenous. We seem to get on well? - We have a general hospital that still performs minor to moderate surgery - an Indigenous Primary walk in clinic ; a mental health team and all the bells and whistles that go with all of that. We also have a fully functioning elderly care day centre that caters for Indigenous and non-Indigneous folk who all mix quite well.

Then there is Woolworths and other small shopping venues ; cathol;ic and non-catholic schools; swimming pool - plenty of other shops with new furnitures etc ; garden centres and caravan sites for holiday makers - I honestly don't know how we manage to manage it all and can't imagine what the budgets are? It's a peaceful sleepy hollow with its own police force even and of course churches taboot!!
