What's the difference between milk and cookies and Cookie Crisp cereal?

My niece left her two kids here this morning because she had to work and they're off from school and the daycare lady is out of town. She brought a box of Cookie Crisp cereal for their breakfast but I'm out of regular milk. I had a carton of chocolate milk, so I gave them that and some Easter cookies that the lady in unit E left here. The niece had a fit about it. She feeds them cookie cereal for cry-sake! WTF is the difference?

I suppose if I poured the chocolate milk on the cookie cereal she'd have been fine with that.

The whole secret is to just not care about the whining. I slapped the oatmeal, fruit, and milk on the table. If anyone whined I stuck out a cupped hand and said " Cry me a bucket." Yes..it IS mean. Children exploit any and all percieved weakness LOL

Okay I draw the line at cookie cereal AND chocolate milk. But hey kids cereal is nothing new. It's probably actually a bit healthier than it was back in the day. I grew up in the late sixties and early seventies when artificial colors and mega sugar gave us neon goodness every morning. My favorite was Sugar Crisp right out of the box.

Captain Crunch with crunchberries NOMNOMNOM. They didn't even make a pretense of being healthy. You know one way for today's kids to get the message of why sugar can be a bad thing? When they understand that's why grandpa takes his teeth out to soak every night...good lesson there.

Grampa's teeth! :D

Sometimes I wonder if neon breakfast cereals is why people are losing their minds. One producer is saying they took out all the artificial stuff - General Mills. Unless it's a GM product your eating a colorful sugar coated bowl of chemistry. The cookies were homemade, so there was at least one egg in there wasn't there?

Hey, if I'd have been given a heads-up, I'd have gone to the store. Cupboard was pretty bare this morning.

I often have thought if they did the right autopsy that folks from that era would have day glow organs. The artificial stuff we consumed in those days was mind boggling.

Still is, for many people. Those children's cereals are nothing but junk, and absolutely FULL of sugar. The cookies were probably healthier. Just because it says breakfast cereal doesn't mean it's good for you. And just because it says "natural" or "organic" doesn't mean it's good for you either. Sugar is still sugar and empty carbs are still empty carbs.
