What's your favorite AI assistant?

Absolutely agreed. As it happens, I had mentioned to husband and son, respectively, over the last five or so days that we need a new microwave. Just one mention to each of them. It wasn't a conversation either time. Just, "We really need a new microwave." -kind of comment.

I didn't "talk" about it or look into it online in any way.

Today, my husband mentioned that he'd noticed the microwave I'd put into our Amazon cart and subsequently did some further shopping. I didn't put a microwave into our Amazon cart. I didn't even look for a microwave on Amazon or anywhere else. The one in the cart was a Galanz, a brand of appliance I like and was looking into heavily a few years ago.

So I said, "We need a new microwave," twice over the span of a few days and today a microwave of a brand I like popped into my Amazon cart. Not in the suggested list of things I might like, in my cart.
How would they be able to listen to you?
Via the tv speakers? Now I feel a bit uneasy.
That’s spooky stuff. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Google got caught and sued for listening in ... if you have a smart speaker they can hear you and obviously they do listen.

The phone can listen in ... I know if I do one search for an item, many future ads I see are the same thing, but I've never had something show up in my cart !!!!!

Yes, and I hadn't even looked for it online in any way nor "mentioned" it online. It's getting weird out there.

I know I said I don’t spook easily but THAT’S spooky. My husband and I are here chatting about it and he agrees that they probably DO spy on us via our TV. 😱 We don’t use Alexa for anything but we do have one blue button that you can ask about shows and movies. You have to press a button to use it though.

You know, I hadn't even considered the TV. We have a similar set up in the main living room. Yeesh.

I use chatGPT but have been playing around with Ollama

What Ollama Does:
Downloads open-source AI models (like Llama, Mistral, etc.)
Runs them locally on macOS, Windows, or Linux
Lets you chat with them in the terminal or through an API
Works offline once the model is downloaded
Your prompts and conversations stay on your device
Nothing is sent to external servers
You don’t rely on cloud APIs

I argue with ChatGPT a lot. This thing sure hallucinates all the time. When it doesn't know the answer, it doesn't tell you, it just makes things up.
