What's Your Favorite Movie

I'm not up to date on movies, but there are some movies from the past I could watch over and over. One of my favorite comedy's is "My Cousin Vinny". I couldn't tell you how many times I've watched it when I was wanting a good laugh. That movie never gets old to me.

The Trip to Bountiful, Geraldine Page, 1985
An elderly woman's only wish is to go back to the town where she lived as a young woman. She finally gets there, and nothing is the same - all the people she knew are long gone; her home was abandoned years ago and has grown up with weeds.

There'd have be some major incentive to name just one. That's like picking any favorite pleasure-- movie, TV show, Book, food, activity. Different types of each thing fills different needs. And my mood definitely makes difference-- what do i need/want from whatever at a given moment in time.

May be back later with a list.

It's Such a Beautiful Day

I can watch it a million times and always find something new. It's comforting in familiarity and exploratory by nature all in one. It encompasses the entirety of my emotions; laughter, sadness, wonder.

And for some strange reason, the words "It smells like dust and moonlight" can make me break down like nothing else.

Mine also, TeePee. Not only me, but also my children immediately start laughing whenever that movie comes up. And they love to talk about "yoots" (dese two innocent yoots), and if you wonder if what you're wearing is appropriate, "Oh yeah, you blend!" always said in Marisa Tomei's sarcastic NY accent.

I've seen her and Joe Pesci in many other movies, but to me they will always be those two characters.

I also like where Marisa Tomei is complaint that her clock is ticking. lol!!!

I don't know about a single favorite. Like most, I've seen so many, and nowhere near all.

Comedy
:

Spinal Tap. The first time I saw this we had to keep stopping the movie because we were literally crying with laughter. It's a masterpiece.
Noises Off! This is a movie about a stage play, which happens to be a farce. If you're into farces and that type of humor, it's a winner. It has Michael Caine and a Christopher Reeves performance before his terrible accident among others.
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. This one tickles my funny bone too. Mainstream humor that really works.
Woody Allen. His early movies are just great. Special mention to Bananas, Play it Again Sam, and Sleeper.
Mystery Men. A super hero movie that has become our Rocky Horror Picture Show. My wife and I know all the dialog and play along with the actors. Just great fun.

Drama

Paris Texas. A hugely powerful movie, enhanced by an incredible soundtrack. Nastassja Kinski plays one of the leads, and she's simply beautiful.
Crash. They said Ballard's novel was unfilmable, but Cronenberg proved them wrong.

Sci Fi

Alien. Saw this during its first theatrical run and was blown away. Still love it today.
The Thing. This version from the 1950's is my favorite, although I think a lot of people enjoy the remake more. Tbf, Carpenters effort is incredible too!

Horror

Universal Monsters. That is the entire slew of horror movies from the 1930's through the 1940's. Karloff, Lugosi, Reins, etc. They're magic.
Videodrome. Another Cronenberg movie. This time he's dealing with the effects of TV on the minds of the viewers, and how they mesh.
Cat People. This is for the remake in the 1980's. Again, Nastassja Kinski is the lead, and she was a Goddess at this point. It's a great film.

I never heard of this movie. Can you say something about it?

These are my 3 top favorite movies:
West Side Story--first saw it at 16 yo, by now I've lost count how many times, I always see new stuff in it. I even liked the recent remake.
The Way We Were--there's nothing as great as politics and doomed love.
All About Eve--Bette is the best actress ever, and every word of this script is profound.

I immediately started watching it when I read your review on my phone. Then later when I wanted to continue the version with the black actors came up and I liked them much better. But as soon as we got to Stanford for Lia’s treatment today while I was waiting for something I opened up my phone and watched the conclusion. Glad I still have the conclusion to the other version to forward to.

The Shawshank Redemption
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Star Wars - ALL of them
