What's your take on bingo?

For some unknown reason, seniors are supposed to be bingo addicts. We can't live without the sound of "B-63". At everyone one of the nearby senior centers, there's bingo hour. I hate bingo. How much skill does it take to put a chip on "N-81"? For me, bingo is OK for 3 minutes, after that where's the door? I kind of resent that hauling out a bingo game is the best they can do for seniors. Are you a bingo addict? What's your take on bingo?

I think it varies across the country what activities are offered. Bingo is usually found everywhere though. I don't play it but a friend of mine does. I think it's slim pickings when it comes to senior activities. I wish they could come up with some other things to do. There is one session coming up in my senior center where they will teach a bunch of different games. I might actually go to that. One game is dominoes.

Chair exercising seems to be popular here at SF. When I laughed they all got defensive. :ROFLMAO:

Bingo used to be HUGE here in the UK in the 60's.. I think we all knew one or more family members who would take themselves to the Bingo Hall every week.. some more than that. However in our household it was looked on very badly.. that those ( mainly women) who played it were ''common''.. and wasted money they didn't have.

I thought nothing of it except what I was told..I was a child then.. but my father who drove buses, said that all week he would pick elderly women up at bus stops to go shopping, and they would struggle to get on and off the bus.. on Friday nights he would pick these same women up who were going to Bingo and they would be on and off the bus like sprightly lambs

We have very few Bingo halls left in the country now, they were all closed down years ago... but I've played it once.. It was ok..for 1/2 an hour but then I got bored.. and really it's quite expensive to play... and I;m not a gambler.. so I wouldn't play again.. however a little game of prize bingo at the coastal resorts is fun for a few minutes..

I think a lot of people play online now..I see it advertised a lot

Yeah, playing bingo for money is nothing more than gambling. I love the Sunday Mass sermons about the evils of gambling, but have "Casino Bingo Night" at St. Mary's. And I also find bingo numbing after 3 minutes.

Bingo was BIG in my late grandmother's ACLF (Adult Congregate Living Facility). The old ladies (there were 8 of them) gathered every night after dinner to play Bingo. It was a very serious business. They kept elaborate records of who won.

I'd visit my grandmother every few nights and I finally gave into their insistence that I play with them. So I got a card and played a few games. Finally, I won and cried out "BINGO!" They were all congratulatory about my win but when it came time to enter the evening statistics, they could not decide what to do with my win. One suggested that I get my own page. Another suggested that my win go to my grandmother's credit, which didn't go over well with a few of the others.

Finally, a decision was made to just ignore my win since I probably wouldn't be playing often.

Needless to say, when I did play after that, I made sure I didn't ever have another bingo win. Not going through THAT again.

Never mess with old ladies and their bingo games........

In the 70's when I was working in the timber industry in rural W.Wa, bingo was everywhere. Abandoned grocery stores were the common venue for cigarette puffing mature ladies to pursue their BINGO dreams. Many of the ladies sat through the night wearing those cheap plastic rain bonnets the whole time they played.

I have never played bingo! The only people I can remember who played bingo were my friends grandmothers so, I have always thought of it as something old ladies do and, of course, I am far too youthful ;)😊

When we had the seniors club here (stopped during the pandemic and never got started again), BINGO was always part of the activities. No gambling involved, though. We just played for small prizes like some potholders or a box of M&Ms which were provided by whatever funds were set aside for that activity. I liked it.

That does sound like fun.

There is nothing riskier in this world than stopping a speedy senior bingo fan who is late for her next bingo game. Better let her go, officer, ‘cause granny doesn’t play bingo online! 😆

hahaha..I remember those rain bonnets, my granny wore one over her hat... but she never played Bingo to my knowledge

A school friend lived in the house her mother had grown-up in. Grandma lived on the ground floor and my friend, her parents and brother, had the rest of the house. If grandma wasn't sitting at the downstairs front window waving at passersby, she was at the bingo. :)
