When did you move into the place where you currently live?

I bought my Villa almost 11 years ago now. I've seen people come and go over the years (usually renters). Not very friendly people except for 3 neighbours. I am the oldest person here but have a few good friends I usually catch up with at least once a week. All I look forward to is peace and quiet.

Built this house just over thirty five years ago (wow!). I always say I bought this house twice, first time when we built it then second time when I got divorced and I bought my ex out. Her buy out was more than the build cost. lol
Same. Bought it twice! It was worth it to me. It’s a mid-century 1940’s classic. Solidly built. When I had the roof redone a couple years ago, the estimator was marveling at how well constructed it was.

My house is older than I am and I've been the steward of it for 18yrs
Can't say it's in better shape now than when bought in 2006
It had been completely gutted and remodeled and was "like new"
I have however, doubled the property size
Bought and removed the house from the lot next door a couple years ago
Then fenced the whole thing in

Where are you now, that you would describe it thusly?
I don't really want to go into details, but needed repairs can't be made, nor can we relocate. We ended up here, because our former life disappeared. It's what we could afford, and had we rented we would have been in a lot worse condition today.

If I had the same purchasing power that we had when we bought we currently couldn't afford anything prices are so high and that includes renting anywhere.

As a couple being homeless would be worse, but if I were single I'd be ok because I don't care what happens to me.

Ah, understood. {{{hug}}}

I worried that you might be in an unpleasant assisted living facility or a nursing home.

It's been about 30+ years ago. Back then, this was out in the sticks. Once you got off the main highway, there were no red lights. Today, even though NYC is a 100 miles away, we are a suburb of NYC. And they just put in the 4th red light.
