When did you notice you're old?

I noticed this old guy looking back in the mirror this morning. I'm 77, so I'm used to seeing me. But this morning, it was different. There was an old guy looking back at me.
In 1998, John Glenn became the oldest astronaut when he went to space as part of Space Shuttle mission STS-95 at the age of 77. He did so as a sitting U.S. Senator and spent 11 days in space before returning to Earth.

The oldest person to reach the summit of Mount Everest is Yuichiro Miura who did so at the age of 80. Miura, who is Japanese, had completed the feat previously at the age of 70 and again at the age of 75.

Nola Ochs became the oldest college graduate in 2007 at the age of 95. Ochs completed her Bachelor of General Studies at Fort Hays State University in Kansas and fulfilled her lifelong dream of earning a degree. However, she didn’t stop there. In 2010, at 98 years old, she became the oldest person to receive a master’s degree.

In Britain, one centenarian is helping to improve and support her community. Ethel Davey, from St. Albans, volunteers at a thrift store every Friday and Saturday afternoon. She started volunteering there at the age of 78 and hasn’t missed a shift in 21 years. Ethel’s secret to a long, happy life is “Keep working, keep meeting people and keep making friends.”

When did you notice you're old?

It started quite some time ago.

The low wall around the park that I used to hop over as a short cut to the shops, now I walk the mile or so around the park because that sodding wall seems to have grown. ☺️

You know you’re old, when:
* You realize the newscasters and weathermen on TV are decades younger than you.
* You mow your lawn, and are still hurting from doing it the next day.
* You think the fast food girl is flirting with you by smiling, and then she asks you if you qualify for the Senior’s discount.
* You own socks and underwear older than most children.
* You seem to have developed super powers of invisibility when out in public.
* Your skin just doesn’t seem to fit you as well as it once did.
* Your once coal-black hair is gray, white, or absent altogether.
* You understand and have used archaic technology.
* You grew up when air conditioning in summer was a rarity.
* You realize that Joe Biden is only a few years older than you!

I had heard about looking in the mirror and seeing an old guy looking back, but it's one thing to see it. Before when I looked in the mirror I saw an aging guy- not old- I knew I wasn't a frisky teenage boy. But when I looked in the mirror and this old geezer was looking back, I understood what others meant. It's going to happen.
BTW, I knew someone was going to post that were just as young as they used to be. Yeah, right.

I have to remind all you folks that Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are both over 80.. and none of us think of them as being old... Mick Jagger is 80 years old in one weeks' time .. and still strutting his stuff in concert as he did in the 60's.. we don't think of him as being old...

...so get your groove on you guys in your 80's....age is but a number (unless you have a serious health condition)
And not only the guys. Joy Behar is 80 and Jane Fonda is 85.

When I look at myself in the bathroom mirror in the same way and with the same lighting every day, I don't appear old to myself. It's when I unexpectedly see my reflection when out and about that I don't recognize myself. When I take a selfie too, I'm shocked at what I see.

When I moved myself to this home 15 years ago, I had the energy to do so, but I don't think I could deal with it now at 80.

I agree with all of this..even getting the shock when you see your reflection elsewhere... the saddest thing about getting older is the lack of muscle tone.. and energy... even me now at 68 .. I'm finding it difficult to pick up heavy things I picked up with ease just even 2 years ago, and after years of swimming twice a day I have strong shoulders, and upper arm muscles ..but they're getting weak .. so I've just bought myself some exercise equipment to build up my muscle strength again..

I really didn't feel my age until this year and now it seems like everything is beginning to wear out at the same time. Up until recently, random people would say "You CAN'T be _________, you don't look it!!!" but I don't hear that much anymore.

My mom died at 95 and people thought she was in her 70's. I had hoped that I was following in her footsteps. Apparently not.

yes but Jane Fonda has had a lot of work done.. and I have no idea who Joy Behar is... .. and are they working as much as the aforesaid guys ?
Cyndi..is 70...

Dolly 77 years old

Diana ...almost 80...

They've all had tons of plastic surgery, but that's okay. They look great, and we always want to see our idols looking as young as possible. Makes us feel younger ourselves. IMO Jane Fonda still looks gorgeous.

I actually felt old when I was close to 40 and attended my 20-year high school reunion. Some of my fellow male graduates who were handsome in high school, like the high school quarterback, were losing their hair and were way out of shape. It jolted me into realizing I was getting older.

Since then, I've just owned my age and focused on building a good life.
