If feeling low or stressed, I sit outside in my rocking chair and whistle all the old tunes I can think of. I have this theory that controlling my breathing by whistling is calming.
There is a reason for this:Don't laugh, but going out in the rain helps me a lot, either walking in a gentle-to-moderate rain with an umbrella or just going out on the back patio and standing in the rain until I'm drenched. If it's coming down in buckets, all the better.
Normally, a waterfall cheers me up immensely, but we're short on them in Florida, so a leaky gutter has to suffice.....
Agreed.Goals are what move us forward in life, and at this age, little goals are best.
My ex told me one time that when you pet your dog, your blood pressure drops 3 points. I don't know if she read that or made it up, but petting my dog does do something that always makes me feel better. It's very calming. I don't know why. It's supposed to make the dog feel good, but I often do it for my benefit. The dog probably thinks it's my way of slobbering on him, as slobbering on me seems to be one of his favorite things, even if I can only take it for so long.I also find that having pets help a lot with mood. I just had a romp with my two tabby cats; they make me laugh so hard!
When I feel down I usually don't feel like doing tasks, or even things I enjoy. When feeling a little down, what is your best way out?
I totally understand..I listen to utube, put in the timer, set to a black screen, heavy rain, no thunder almost every night falling asleep. I also live in Florida so I hear rain a lot esp this time of year and love it! I don't relate to the getting drenched part, but I noticed a lot of people here walk in the rain with no umbrella and do not mind getting wet. My main complaint would be getting my hair wetDon't laugh, but going out in the rain helps me a lot, either walking in a gentle-to-moderate rain with an umbrella or just going out on the back patio and standing in the rain until I'm drenched. So sorry to hear of your health issues and also of your losses. That is one of the biggest disadvantages of getting older...we start losing people we grew up with and people in the news from years ago...I believe in a great big celebratory reunion when we join them....I'm still looking for a remedy. And I need it fast.
My SO and I are both having significant health issues, last month we lost 2 more high school classmates (out of a class of about 40), a few days ago a cousin lost her seemingly healthy husband to a heart attack, and today that same cousin's father (my uncle) passed away.
So, if you don't mind, I'll just sit here and let the funk roll over me....
