When Is the Last Time You Had a Vacation

Sept 2023 - spent a week in Petoskey, Michigan - A terrific "sisters and cousins" trip. Had a BALL! What a beautiful place and so much to do! Unfortunately, husband, due to some health issues, no longer has an interest in travel. So, girl's trip it is!

This was our second trip. When our father passed in 2020, my youngest sister was the executor of his will, after caring for him through Covid. She had done SO much - keeping us informed of her every move - and my other sister, and I thought she deserved a break! So, we took some $$ from Dad's estate, rented a large house in Nag's Head (NC Outer Banks) and invited our girl-cousins from both sides of the family. There were 6 of us (2 from the west coast, held back because Covid was still active) and we had such a good time, we decided to do it again. Since we cannot pay for the accommodations again, we decided to make it every other year, so we'd all have time to save up.

As some of us are on the east coast and some on the west coast we decided to meet in the middle. Do you know what is in the middle of the US?? NOTHING! So, as close as we could get, we booked rooms in The Terrace Inn in Petoskey, Michigan and there were 7 of us. There are still 2 more cousins we'd like to have join us. Again, we had SO MUCH FUN!

2010 I leased a dilapidated retreat center and spent a month in Puerta Viejo , Costa Rica doing repairs so a friend could run it. I loved every minute in the jungle, here in the desert we have very little green. I had to hack a path through ten foot plants with my machete that I tend to carefully in a pot at home.

Costa Rica is stunning. Such nice people there, too.

Every day is pretty much a vacation since I retired, but we do try to travel every now and then. It gets me away from the every day routine. My partner still works, so we work around his schedule. We took long weekends for most of this year, visiting friends in Palm Springs, San Antonio and San Francisco.

We made up for it in September when we visited Canada and New England for 11 days and last month when we went to Spain, France and Italy. We just returned this past Monday. Now our wings are clipped until next February when we go to the Caribbean to get away from the Texas ice storms. Nothing else planned for 2024, but we really want to go to Greece and Turkey late in the year.

We love visiting other countries for the culture and it gets me away from the depressing news and divisiveness that we are currently experiencing.
