When This Boat Crew Realized What They Were Seeing, It Was Almost Too Late

The site guitarist posted shows that this happened in the Pacific back in 2006. but none the less, awesome it certainly was. What a wonderful thing to have witnessed! Thanks Pinky. I hadn't seen these before. Not such a rare occurrence though. Remember the new island that formed off of Iceland a few years ago? The Hawaiian islands are growing as I type. Its a personal quirk, but I always try to see myself as being on a living planet with all of its uncertanties of earthquakes and volcanic activity. We are always fascinated by the idea of visiting other "planets". We forget that we are on one that is teeming with alien life forms.

I didn't mean to downplay the experience of the boat's crew. I just liked the additional info in the link. I wanted to see what they'd name the new island. Never heard of this happening before.

It was awesome, but I'd have punched the boat captain that took me through it. When there's something strange as that on the surface, it's always a sign there's something strange happening below.

This is so awesome! I just watched a piece about this on ' What on Earth? ' on the SCI channel today. It was about things seen from satellite and that was one of them. Very cool stuff :)

I thought it was interesting that the water around the boat wasn't boiling hot. Not that I have any experience of boats and volcanoes except for the run down the mountain in Dante's Peak (totally different boat and body of water, I realize). Just overwhelmed at the idea of the birth of a whole new island in my lifetime.
