When to start social security.

The what if ,outliers generally are not a great way to plan around ...that is how people either don’t do well financially because they always have visions of some disaster ready to spring out or they make decisions based on things unlikely to play out .

Everyone knows someone who died fairly young . Yet the odds are quite slim for dying before our 80’s if we make it to age 62 .

The best way to plan is always around what was , what is and what stands a reasonable chance of continuing

The break even point is meaningless unless you are obsessed with making sure you don't let the government beat you out of a penny.

The most important thing deciding when to retire and when to take social security is will you have enough to live comfortably when you retire.
I agree 100% with both of these statements and will add a bit to your second sentence:

The most important thing deciding when to retire and when to take social security is will you have enough to live comfortably when you retire AND will your marriage's surviving spouse have enough to live comfortably if one of you passes significantly earlier than the other.
