Remember how thick the Sunday paper was??

A lot of my neighbors still receive the Sunday newspaper. I used to read those. They still carry them in Whole Foods where I shop on Sundays. I have no idea how much they cost now. Often people will leave them on the tables so others can take them and read them for free.

the only newspaper I've seen in years is the one I get from AAA. I always throw it out. I glance at it first of course! I used to get the Cleveland Plain Dealer but probably haven't in 10 years.

The Plain Dealer still in business? I remember getting it many years ago living up there … and The Cleveland Press… remember that one too.

I see them often, since my local corner store sells them. The last time I read one? That was a VERY long time ago.

As for Sundays - there was a time I'd get the Sunday Times. It took me all day to read it, all the different sections, every story. I loved it, and looked forward to it. However, like all things, it went down hill and more commercial and just got boring. Today I simply have no interest in newspapers.

Today, it's a weekly local paper that comes out every Thursday. It has everything from local politics, police reports, clubs & organizations, film, gardening and farming, health and wellness, children's activities, high school sports, arts and crafts, museums and exhibitions, markets, shows and fairs, music, dance, nature, outdoors, to support groups. I love it.

I worked for six years for one of the biggest city dailies. The Sunday paper was so big that half of it had to be delivered on Saturday. We had three editions a day (essentially the same paper, but the front page might change a bit if something big happened....we were considered an "afternoon" paper). On a good Sunday, the classified advertising section was 75 pages long. It usually took me all Sunday and maybe part of Monday to get through the paper.

Our local paper now looks more like a supermarket handout. It's pitiful in every way. I have no use for it.

I moved away from Cleveland in 1967 after college. There was another Cleveland paper that we subscribed to, but that went out of business in the 1980s. The Cleveland Press! It played a highly prejudicial role in the Sam Shepherd murder case--and was on the wrong side of history.

Printing legal notices is all that keeps them going.
That's not always a bad thing... Back in the 1980s when my only legal marriage went south I went to see a lawyer and asked how I could get a divorce. The lawyer said I had file the paperwork with the Court, and that they require you to serve her the divorce papers (I don't remember the exact words, that was ages ago). Then I asked how could I do that without knowing where she went. The lawyer said all I had to do was run a notice in the newspaper for however long where ever her last known address is. I asked what if she doesn't see it? "That's her problem." But he said that a lot of people never get divorced, so I never filed.

I miss my Sunday paper ritual. Loved it. Miss newspapers everyday. I quit buying the Sunday paper when it hit $5.50 a copy. Now I have to pay $16.99 a month..online, and much of it is repeated and rearranged. I miss clipping articles, interesting bits and pieces I would send to someone or keep in a desk drawer for later reference.

My first 'after school' job was delivering newspapers. Many years on, I used to travel a lot and stayed in Marriott hotels where we received a daily complimentary 'USA today'. I don't generally bother otherwise except for the occasionally copy of 'The Times'.

My local fishmonger still wraps fish in the previous days newspaper - usually the regional 'Press and Journal'.

Used to get the Sunday paper delivered. And several free shoppers. Now I have to save the brown packing paper from Amazon packages so I have something for cleaning my fish as we no longer even get the free shoppers.
