Someone I was pleased to meet one day. Maya Angelou and that is one of her quotes. I'm embarrassed that I didn't know my dogs behavior in our yard. But then a woman I talk to regularly. She has an AmBull twice the size of Callie. She told me the truth "You have a pit and they are NEVER out alone, Hell no, even if it's nothing to do with them it's their fault". I am in the yard whenever they go out from now on...

What is the difference between a pit bull and an AmBull? I know what an AmStaff is, and just looked up American Bulldog, and I think a pit bull is another name for an AmStaff, but now I'm confused. It's getting as confusing as Jack Russell Terriers, Parson Russells, and Russells.

If you go on a solid bull breed site they draw blood over this stuff. Basically and please don't quote me...
Pit Bull- The US and UK definition for a dog with big head, big shoulders, small eyes...kind of like in Nazi Germany where you could pick out the Aryans.

Amstaff- Long and lean like Sophie and bigger than a Staffie.

Apparently in the UK a "Staffie", that is it looks like Sophie but maybe 20lb smaller is legal.

An Ambull on the other paw looks like Callie. Law enforcement and the public might shoot him on sight for their reputation as blood thirsty killers.

Then again in America there were whole blood lines devoted to the "sport" of dog fighting...it's complicated.
My dogs...I just woke up at this un-G-dly hour and both were wrapped around me.

The context of the quote is being quoted out of context and so being misunderstood. It was not said that those who know better will do better, it is that you now have the opportunity to forgive yourself or to do better now that you have the knowledge, better depth, and hopefully maturity to understand your mistakes and or harm you've done to others in life and the fortitude not to repeat those behaviors. More so if you don't like how you did things in the past, do them different if you want to have a different affect. Forgive yourself for the past, but, own up and take responsibility going forward. Just know this applies in various situations for when you are stuck.

We often wait when we don't know what to do because we've seen others do things better. Don't let the accomplishments of others intimidate you. Do the best you can with what you know now. You'll learn more later. You'll learn more from doing. When you learn, then you can do better.

I know I hate it when the truth sneaks up on me and slaps in the face. It happens. Live and learn.

Pit bull isn't a true breed, it is a lumping together of breeds, according to my vet. My sweet girl Bonnie is mostly American Staffordshire terrier, a real breed, but much adulterated in the US. They are lumped into the "pit bull" group.

That is true, Sophie is identified as American Staffordshire. Maybe a bit of boxer, a dash of German Shepherd. It is interesting though reading about the old time breeders. Of course there were backyard breeders too. But some of those guys knew genetics.
