When you need things done/fixed around your house, what services do you use and why?

I get this guy to do all the work around my house because he works for free. Oh sure, I might have to give him a cold beer or a shot of Tequila at day's end but that's OK. And if I don't like what he did I know where to find him at night. FYI, that's not his purse, he's holding it for me while I shop.

That is so funny, what a good natured guy!

Well, if anyone is in the Northwest Harris county or Magnolia/ Montgomery county/ Waller county region, I could sure give you solid rehab guys that are wonderful. They buy materials at wholesale and never take a markup on the materials - you just pay what it cost them. Have known these guys for years and they've done everything from plumbing to caulking to putting in a new deck, faux interior painting, tile laying inside and out and on and on. They even moved our business for us a few years ago.
I wish I lived close by they sound wonderful so talented!

My son and my grandsons for minor things, but I hired a guy to paint a few year ago= he was a jerk.

Home Depot found a team to re-carpet...worked out well.

I found a handyman through a neighbor who power washed and restained my deck also fixed a big problem with plumbing. He did fine.

Why? because I can't.
I know what you mean

We are using more and more services as we get older:
Pushing a lawn mower around in a heat index over 100F. No more
Digging up and repairing the sprinkler system. No more
Painting. No more kinks in the neck
Spraying for bugs. No more messing with chemicals
Cleaning rain gutters. Wife tells me to stay off the roof
Crawling under the house on my belly to fix things. No been there too many times and I don't like the snakes and bugs.

And, not unimportant is the fact that people need the work and I pay well.

You know, you are so right. We tend to do the things we like doing and hire out the other "stuff", or what we can't do. Felt bad as August was the driest month around here we can remember in years...worst for no rain since the drought of '11 and our groundsman couldn't mow the land/acreage as it was just so burnt out. Just as soon as it rained an inch (the other day) we called him to come...hey, sure he needs the money and has been a blessing for many years. Its nice to be able to "pay back".
