When you post "Hot", is it normal hot,or something else?

I see a lot of posts about it being "hot" outside. Come on, it IS summer. June. When you are posting about "hot" are you talking about normal hot, summer hot, or are you talking about more hot than usual?

For me, N.E. PENN, it's 3PM, cloudy and 78.

I apologize to non-USA users. Are you noticing different temps than normal?

Well, I'm in that massive heat wave and it is WAY more than normal summer heat, especially this early in the summer. I can't remember it ever having been over 100 for so many days in a row, and the temps are still rising. Here in the high desert of New Mexico, it usually cools down quite a bit at night, but not now. The news is giving out dangerous heat warnings and concerns about possible power failure because of such high power use by people trying to stay relatively cool. Swamp coolers (which most people use here) don't keep it really comfortable when it gets above the high 90s.

It's AWFUL.

I now live in central Florida where there are four distinct seasons .... Warm, Hot, Hotter, Hottest. Fortunately, I enjoy hot weather but could do with a little less humidity.

What a great post fuzzybuddy . I never realized what seems hot to me might be comfortable to someone else ! For me - Anything in the 90's might as well be hell . LOL I live on the shores of Lake Michigan and when we get an east breeze -- it's like a built in A/C . I'm spolied ! When I go inland , I'm sweltering. ugh. We also have high humidity ... that makes it even more miserable. I have to laugh when people say their heat is a "Dry heat" ... I always laugh and say " so is the heat in my oven " .

I'm not accustomed to the climate here in the midwest, it's chaotic throughout the year, and neighbor who's also from out of state said exactly the same thing today. The current temperature says 90 degrees, and while I love hot weather in general, it's like there is no air. I don't mean no breeze, no AIR. Locals say it's humidity, 'like breathing through water,' and that does sound accurate.
So I have BOTH a window AC unit AND ceiling fan going almost every day (for the last few weeks), although before I came here I never used an air conditioner or fan.

We had a heat wave in May, eighty plus F. Two summers in a row of temps hitting 90 frequently. Abnormal for a maritime temperate climate. This year we had repeated snowfalls, almost unheard of. At least in the summer we don't experience the humidity of the northeast.

Anything above 72 is a waste for me. For me, 73 is unbearable. I could never understand those people, who like it hot. It has to be some psychological thing. I don't know how you can live with temps of 111, 105, etc. In PA, we don't get that high. How do you live with those temps?

We've been breaking records most of the week here in Northern California, they're calling for 112 today.

Got up this morning around 1:30am thinking to turn off my swamp cooler.
I left it running when I saw the outside temperature was 87.

I remember when I was a kid I loved these warm Summer nights. I just can't remember why I did now..

I don't live with them very well. When it gets this hot, I get up very early and do whatever has to be done outside (water plants, pick up dog poo, etc.) so I can be done before 8:00 AM. Unless I absolutely have to, I don't go ANYWHERE in the worst heat of the day. Yesterday I had a chiropractor appointment at 2:15, and made a short stop at the grocery store afterwards. The car doesn't cool off very well in this heat, particularly in stop and start city driving. By the time I got home and got my groceries in, I was feeling quite ill and overheated.

I took the car by the mechanic to have the AC checked out and he told me it was working fine, and that he had had lots of people come in with the same question. Cars out in the sun in this heat and blazing sun just heat up and can't cool down well because of all the metal and so on. Also our atmosphere is very thin here, being so high, and the sun just comes down full force with no respite. Normally, my car cools off just great, even gets too cool, but not the last week or so, so I thought something might be wrong with it.

I hope this heat wave ends soon. It isn't really cooling off at night, either.

When I say it's hot, that is anything over 101* and right now I'm with Lon on it being Hotter Than Hell! I did get in trouble for using that phrase at work years ago but since I'm not at work now I guess I can say it.

Copied and pasted from the National Weather Service
for yesterday's highest temperatures in the USA:

High Temperature for Wednesday, June 21, 2017
(as received by 2 pm EDT June 22)
123 at Needles, CA
123 at Death Valley, CA

In Central Florida it almost never gets to 100; it's the humidity that lays you down and walks all over you.

But up in the Detroit area where I lived for six years, we would routinely get a heat wave in June where the temp would get over 100 for 5-7 days in a row. Everyone would be miserable because not that many people had air conditioning back then. There would be several deaths of elderly people who wouldn't open their windows because of fear and wouldn't use the fans or portable air conditioners because of the cost of electricity. The authorities would try to get them to come to shelters for relief, but it was hard to get them out of their apartments and houses.

Right now it`s 108 at 6pm. Waaay too hot for me. We generally get close to 100 but not over-or at least not for as many days in a row that this has been. Supposed to finally cool down a bit tomorrow, thankfully. We have already had several small wildfires (a couple started by an arsonist but they got him) and we are all pretty jittery about fires here after our last couple of years.

Right now here in NC, it's been raining for a week. Mostly gentle rain, but today we've been getting the fringes of the tropical storm that smacked the gulf coast (yep, all the way up here in the mountains). Nights are quite chilly (ahhhhhhh......paradise) and days are very nice. It's supposed to be rainy until Sunday, which is bad, because one of the biggest events in this area, an antiques fair, is this Saturday. Bummer. I guess we'll just see more rust....

It's 86 degrees here right now. But the feels like is 98. It's like a sauna outside. I think Mobile Alabama might be the humidity capital of the world.

We were stationed in Huntsville for several years, and I am absolutely sure that the humidity capital of the world is SOMEWHERE in Alabama, or maybe it's the whole state. Alabama is one of the most beautiful places I've ever lived (LOVE the greenery and the magnolia trees), but it was probably the most miserable in the summer.
