When you retired did you move somewhere else or stay in familiar surroundings?

We moved 4200km when we retired to be closer to family. Couldn’t be happier! Best decision ever. No health care to speak of, but that’s being worked on.

We decided to move into a small house before downsizing again in ten years. We want to be in an apartment by the time Hubby turns 80 years old. Lots to do first to get there.

I know several seniors who in retirement moved to "their paradise." After a few years, they came back to where they had lived all their lives, where they always had been feeling comfortable.
Yes, I lived in a kind of island paradise, and this was a familiar story. People would retire to their dream home on the island, and then they'd miss various aspects of city life. Or they'd get tired of taking the ferry to go shopping, etc.

Yes, I grew up in a small town in Florida that was primarily inhabited by retirees who had moved down from colder climates. I think about 1/3 did not last and moved back. And another 1/3rd were not real happy with their decision but for one reason or another stayed. Only about 1/3rd seemed happy with the move.

Moves like this need to be thought out carefully.
