Where are all the bugs?

I have been noticing a decline in flying insects over the last decade, especially the last 2 or 3 years. Of course it's winter now, but even in the warmer seasons the southwest states just don't seem to have the flying bugs it used to.

I rarely need to clean my windshield :(

We have had days with no birds and even when there’re some, it’s not many.

For those that remember Gaer from New Mexico, she talked about the absence of bugs and wildlife.
It wasn't long after that I started noticing a decrease here. Barely saw any bugs this past summer. It is worrisome.

Here in New York, I noticed no decline in insects. Although I hate insects, they are necessary. Although I could do without flies, mosquitos, and the occasional house centipede.

I used to get Japanese beetles every year eating my climbing roses, but haven't had any beetles for years (fine with me). I still get fireflies every summer, and lots of bees on my echinacea flowers. Big yellow and black bumblebees and also the plain smaller ones. Also so carpenter bees that drill holes into my split rail fence.
