Where are the VVA veterans out there. What's going on? What are you thinking ?

Assuming VVA means Vietnam vets: I'm here but fighting cancer. Both ships on which I served have long been scrapped and all the drama of that era has pretty much faded away. To today's young people, our war was like WWI was to us. I agree that it does seem that it all happened yesterday. If you didn't mean Vietnam Vets of America: never mind.

Seems like yesterday to me as well. Should not have used VVA. Getting miss understood. Just Vietnam veterans. I will pray for healing for your cancer.

I am a Vietnam vet. Over the course of three years made three cruises there on an aircraft carrier, but personally never got a glimpse. Maybe once, but it was probably just a cloud on the horizon. I’ve told this story before. When my 3 Year commitment was up I extended for two years in exchange for shore duty in the Med, and got Spain, a great three years. Last few months I took over a brig that was basically a shore bound jail for bad boys from the 6th Fleet. The officer I relieved told me a story that a Marine guard that had been transferred in from Vietnam told him. The Marine had seen a prisoner pushed from a helicopter to his death.

When my time was up I returned to California as a civilian Reserve officer and began reading very worrisome things about Vietnam, things that I had never been exposed to in the Navy. I remembered the Marine‘s Helicopter story and wrote the Sec Nav. He wrote back and said that this was just a “Sea Story“, an untrue tale, a lie. I believed the Marine and resigned my Reserve Commission.

I'm in my 70's now and think a lot about those days.

B-52's carried and dropped 1/3 of the 7 million tons of bombs during Vietnam.
Most of the 'BUFF's' were based in Guam where I was stationed in 1970.
In that time, I loaded countless bombs to be delivered to Southeast Asia.
We were 'Load Toads' and kept pretty much to ourselves.
We hand loaded most of these and the ones I remember the most were the 'Pineapples'. (BLU-3B)
These were 2 lb. Cluster bombs which are still injuring and killing people in Southeast Asia to this very day.

It was War and you did your job.

Back then I was 18 and knew the end result of the job I performed, but shut out any feelings of what affect I was causing
the civilian population.

That's the Demons I live with now...

A B52 is sitting at Tinker AF. Her pilot is active on SO's play dates. Trust me he talks a tall tale.
SO was not a pilot in his military days but a snoop flight on Christmas Eve changed our world

Just trying to do the best I can, it gets hard sometimes, The pictues below are me. Vietnam 1967-1969., just turned down receiving an award for Veterans Day, I have a room full, I just want to set, and visit with the veterans for a change.
