Where does it all go?

I thought that whenever I received my state pension (in additional to occupational pensions), that I would feel better off. Somehow, things don't seem to have changed all that much. I've just looked at my spending for the last month and I can see that there have been several 'one off' payments, but every month there seems to be more 'one off' payments..

There always seems to be something to pay and I'm starting to feel that I'll never be better off, no matter how much I get. Ah well, as long as there's enough, I'll survive.

I'm with you 100% there Capt. At this time of the year it's all the car expenses. Two weeks ago, the insurance. End of this month, road tax. Then the MOT in 10 days time. Last year it cost £350 to get a pass!
I have the state plus 2 pensions but it still doesn't always stretch! Unexpected bills can be an anxiety.

We're at that moment you describe Capt Lightening, of feeling 'better off' because my husband just turned 65 so he gets his Old Age Security from now on. Problem is, that I'll go grocery shopping and spend all of it easily and it gets easier every month to spend it because the cost of food is skyrocketing. So yeah, we're having to learn to be happy with 'just enough' also.

Unless you put a certain amount away a month, it just sort of trickles away!So that is what we do now, and have enough for a new bathroom .But you have to make sure you do it regularly and not be tempted to spend it before it becomes a good sum.
