Where does our preference for a significant other come from ?

Interesting subject. Very rarely is it my libido that stirs anything in me, but an intellectually attractive man will get my attention. His looks are important to me, but this is not the most important quality.

If it is my libido that is stirred, red flags go up! I consider that a form of insanity.
You may be correct, BUT without libido as a major 1st factor, I don't see how a relationship could ever get started.
It is also true, however, that men fall in love thru their eyes and women fall in love thru their ears. ;)

I like that saying, and for seniors how much hope is there, of enjoying the company of another human being when we no longer look as good as we once did and may need assistance walking? Age is not kind to us, so we better have more going for us than our bodies. And I can not imagine a mature woman being attracted to a male who doesn't have more to offer than his body. Like we want to take care of man, why? But it would be nice to have a companion who is pleasant to be with and can converse about interesting things.

Every woman I know wants a companion and probably not a sex partner.
