Sorry all, this is not really a new thread, but I wanted to see the amazing bridge again that people posted [it's somewhere in the US.]I can't find it, anyone know?

I brought up the subject when someone mentioned that they were nervous when going over bridges and I happened to mention the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, which is located just outside of St. Petersburg, Florida.

On the way up to the top.

I think I paid $3.00 the last time that I went over the bridge and you pay both ways. The original bridge was made up of two separate spans, one going north and one going south. A large ship hit the original bridge and it partially collapsed sending some vehicles, including a Greyhound bus into the Bay. Originally, the bridge was actually two separate spans. The bridge goes over Tampa Bay where it empties into the Gulf of Mexico. On a sunny day, it is beautiful when on top and your cell phone connection is the best ever. They took the old bridge, you can watch them demolish it on a YouTube video, and made it into two fishing piers. You can drive out onto the piers for a fee, of course, and pay one price just to go site seeing and another price to fish off the pier. There is also a bait house on the south fishing pier and the north fishing pier as well as bathrooms. I believe the Florida Parks and Recreation division runs the piers. It has also been used for many suicides.

This is my favorite bridge, the seven-mile natural bridge from the mainlands to Key West, Florida. I also like the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

I agree about the Key West Bridge oldman. I always loved that experience.
(I also have a picture posted of it somewhere in the Travel thread.)

Thank you so much people, for bothering to post for me about the bridge! All amazing bridges, especially that one [7 mile] from the mainland to Key West, which was the one I was thinking about.:) it must be a wonderful [if slightly scary] drive over it.So many interesting topics come up in a thread [where we go slightly off piste as it were] that it's hard to remember what original thread they came up in.

Thanks all for making me ill all over again. my vertigo is once again in full bloom. I have no one to blame but myself, of course, since I didn't have to open this page up. :crying: :D

As usually great pics, Oldman.

Wonderful pics oldman and Davey.Bridges are very atmospheric aren't they? Did anyone watch the Swedish drama 'The Bridge' all subtitled, but very watchable, and what a marvellous bridge that was.

This is good ole HWY 10. Have ridden this wonderful way many a time. Would love to do it again. Have the top down in VW with Jimmy Buffet music playing. May try to rent a version of 1950s GMC and go one more time with my friend before we kick the bucket. Maybe we could hear the music better if not a VW. This was the 1960s, but I always loved the big cars.

Cruising down to Key West over the bridge (several times) is one of my best memories, and stopping at some of the local stores and tourist traps was part of it.

Reminds me of the bridge just up the road from me - they closed it down 6 months ago for safety reasons and don't have the money to fix it, so it just sits there, and I have to walk a mile out of my way to get to the store.

The kicker is, it's even smaller than pappy's bridge.
