Where's the top 3 coolest places you've ever been? And why.

Where's the coolest top 3 places you've ever been?
For me-
Top of the Empire State Building, It's such a touristy thing, but something you have to do. And it is cool.
Gettysburg Civil War Park. I was holding a pic of a dead Confederate, and seeing the same rocks his body was on.
The White House. Went on a tour, it's cool seeing in real life what you only see on TV.

Doing a caravan trip down the Great Ocean Road in the State of Victoria, Australia .. viewing The 12 Apostles (now fewer due to erosion), literally took my breath away.

I loved Melbourne's multicultural population, and it's architecture - modern buildings next to old. The feel of the city was electric to me.

Sydney was beautiful .. the sailboats on the pristine blue waters, the Opera House. Sky-high prices though!

The Why: An Aussie friend told me about the Great Ocean Road, so I was determined to see it, as the photo she'd emailed was so breath-taking.

New York City
So much to see. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is just one of thousands of sights. Central Park is another.

Tulum Mexico; Tulum Archaeological Zone.
The Mayan ruins.
More than the ruins themselves is the natural beauty of the area, the Caribbean Sea.

Acadia National Park; Maine
Protects the natural beauty of the highest rocky headlands along the Atlantic coastline of the United States, an abundance of habitats, and a rich cultural heritage. Nice place to camp.

Coolest places I've ever been would all have to be in Hawaii ... with a live volcano eruption about 20 ft. in front of us, coming in at one - although that was very hot! .... lava flowing out to the ocean and forming new land was just unbelievable ....
New plants and new life in all forms coming into being was amazing.

Glastonbury Tor & Abbey. On one of my many sojourns there, my bedroom faced the Abbey ruins!

But am also so grateful for American & Canadian National Parks. I've seen many places & countries I loved and had such glorious times! Thanks for reminding me that my life has been pretty good despite what was awful.

As for why: I was young, adventurous, had enough money and good friends wherever I went. Life on tour.

1. Walking on the Great Wall of China
2. Walking in Red Square in Moscow and looking at St. Basil's Cathedral
3. Walking toward Abu Simbel in Southern Egypt.

Sitting atop a huge white glacier in Alaska which had holes and gaps where I could look down and see the most incredible blue color,
sliding down it to the ground right into a bunch of white daisy wildflowers. i didn't know how they could bloom so close to an iceberg.

Feeling something wet on my nose when I was sleeping in a sleeping bag in Yosemite Park, next to a rippling stream.
I opened my eyes to see the eyes of a deer staring into them. That was pretty cool!

Saved the best for last: In my home. A holy Angel appearing to me in a great, white light. Speaking to me and touching my forehead.
Nothing on Earth can compare to THAT!

If by "cold" you mean unfriendly, that was my experience, too. According to the one friendly guy I met, the first few locals who approached me thought I was from one of the other islands, but as soon as I said hi they realized I was a mainlander. And apparently, word spread.

Mainlanders are treated well as long as they stick to the main tourist areas and act like tourist.

Crete - bluest water I've ever seen. The Knosso Palace.
Belize - Rainforest, beaches and the Mayan Ruins.
Egypt - visited many parts back in the 1987, 1988 and again in 1990. Explored many sites the first two trips,
but was a little busy in 1990 to explore much with the War and all, then on to the Island of Diego Garcia, which had it's own charm !

Oh gosh! .... that was a typo error @Murrmurr ... BUT, what we found around the volcanic eruptions was two totally different sets of rules, which was bizarre in itself.

On the state side, there were officials to watch for any tourists not obeying all safety boundaries, and staying back a good distance.
On the federal side, there was absolutely no one to care what you did!! It was the strangest thing I ever saw.

People around us were making jokes about the Federal Government having a lot more money for lawsuits than the state of Hawaii.

50th. wedding anniversary.
El Conquistador Resort, Fajardo Puerto Rico.
From there a side trip to St. Thomas. Trip to Ponce to see the museum, a day at Luquillo beach, of course old San Juan. Knowing that a block from the Ponce museum there is a small resturant that serves a pitcher full of good wine & mixed fruit along with great food helps. Same with old San Juan 3 blocks down from center square park a great small restuarant. Toss in night life & casinos we needed a couple of days to unwind when we got home.

10 days on Maui 1st day rented Ford Mustang convertible
Did the tourist stuff. Wine & cheese on the beach at night. 38 mile sunrise bike ride down the east side of the inactive volcano, visited the winery & had 6 bottles of pineapple wine shipped home, outrigger boating to try to see whales migrating. Luau that would have been fantastic if we had the nerve to grab the food like others did. What we got was good just not much left to eat after the greedy ones in the line ahead of us overloaded their plates.

2 1/2 month road trip around the west & central states here in America.
We'd love to do this again because it far exceeded what we hoped to see & do. Stopping to see, eat, or experience something is like trying to describe hiking Yellowstone & Yosemite National Parks because each have unique features.

As a California landscape photographer (not for income) for 4 decades, I look at that from a different perspective. Man's world of infrastructure pales in comparison to much in the natural world I've sought. Many places of wonder one needs to make an effort hiking to at specific times of season and times of day. How wonderful to have lived a long life experiencing this precious blue water world.

Japan....lived in a Japanese Village (Hayama near Zushi) in an authentic house with zen gardens, rice paper doors, view of Mount Fuji from a round Fuji window, slept on futons on tatami mats, attended many tea ceremonies, street festivals, traveled to Kyoto, Temples, Shrines, Tories, ate Japanese cuisine daily (a japanese maid sometimes cooked for us), and more.

Hawaii...because I loved the smell of frangipani in the air, leis, happy people, white sand, snorkling in clear blue water with many tropical fish

Colorado...Rocky Mountain View. Aspen Trees, camping in Grand Teton National Park, Skiing in Vail, Horseback riding near Red Rock, clear skies, good vibes
