What i put in bold would top my list too. My Dad bought me a copy at 2nd hand book store when i learned to read at 4. Fueled my life long love of poetry. The cover was one of those where an illustration was embossed on the cover. It was destroyed in the house fire when i was 8, but decades later i found a similar copy (tho cover had some damage) at an estate sale and couldn't resist getting it for my self.A Child's Garden of Verses (I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me...)
Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm
The Little Colonel
and so many more! I still have some of them.
Almost forgot! "Somebody Else's Shoes" that was on a shelf in my 4th grade class. We were allowed to choose a book to read when our work was finished. I probably read every one of them at one time or another during the school year, but that one stuck with me.
I recall, at age 10, being the only child allowed to select books in the 'Adult' section of our small local library. The Public Library, around the corner, was always an important place in our lives.
I know you were probably serious but I still thought it was funnyIf any of you have a copy of it, pick it up and burn it.
Oh, I loved that book!Johnny Tremain
