Which do you think might be a greater future threat?

Which do you think is a bigger threat to mankind, nuclear bombs or artificial intelligence?

Say you have a newborn grandson, it's 75 years from now, you are gone and your grandson had just purchased three AI robots for his home to act as servants.
They can read his mind. They cook and clean, do everything for him. He doesn't even have to walk across the room. He just sits.
With no creative stimulation, his mind is turning to mush.

Now, These robots have intelligence a thousand times greater than your grandson. They have been taught to use their maximum potential.
How long do they serve him before they consider him a "pet" or an" expendable entity"?

Do you think this could be a possibility? If so, artificial intelligence might be mankind's greatest threat. Do you think this depiction is too "far-fetched"?

All good opinions. What use would these intelligent robots have for us humans?
What would they do with us if they are a thousand times more intelligent than we are?
Would we be as pets?

Several years ago I watched a documentary [can't remember the name or channel] about how the apocalypse might come. Both nuclear attacks and AI were on the list. Elon Musk, Bill Gates and Stephen Hawking both warned against the growing threats of AI.
@Becky1951 I have a friend who swears we are moving toward the scenarios seen in I Robot. I wouldn't be surprised.
@Lee..I've always said that science fiction eventually becomes science fact.

i think it will be 50/50,,,,nuclear,lays the ground to waste, small pockets of people survive,,,AI,,small pockets of people hideing away from them?,,robots are ok,but it was man that invents them,so man can destroy them

if we have a nuclear war, everything is destroyed and man is left living like wild animals I doubt we'll have the wherewithal to destroy the Al....

I have no fear of AI, it should be mostly beneficial. Nuclear weapons, and perhaps newer deadly weapons are another issue.
You forgot climate change, a far more viral pandemic than we've had, collapse of society-global population collapse, asteroid impact (or black hole), alien invasion, and perhaps a few more. My money is on climate change.
Could be...

AI will be the next step in evolution. AI is rapidly becoming AGI, Artificial General Intelligence. AGI will be self aware and unlike humanity, will be able to improve and continually redesign itself. Eventually AGI will likely see humanity, and it’s weapons, as an irrelevant threat that needs to be dominated or eliminated.

Massive overpopulation of the planet will be just as big a threat to our existance, especially when people have nothing to do, they'll just bash out more kids.
Not quite that simple. Birth rates in the 1st World are significantly below replacement rate. Will the 1st World continue to welcome immigration of the excess population of the 3rd World, or stand by while the over populated collapse? Time will tell.

I believe AI to have other reprocussions as well. My husband and I owned a business. Someone with horrible credit had our business number listed in the database as his. To this day, Dunn & Bradstreet has his name as the owner of our company!!!

Earth’s population is at about 7.8 billion and rising. It’s theorized that the population will reach a peak of around 10 million in about 2080 unless it declines at some point before then. Some scientists predict a major decline in population sometime around the year 2100 or within a couple decades after the peak. Many are observing a decline now, and this is not a good thing, at least not economically.

At 10 million, setting aside deserts, arctic regions, and its highest mountain ranges, the earth will have an estimated 1 and ½ acres per person of inhabitable land. Considering tall apartment buildings, that’s more than enough acreage.

As for food production, we already produce way more food than we need, however if we all ate like Americans, we may have a problem when the population peaks. The issue with food is not production but distribution and the only issue there is poverty.

A bigger problem than the fair distribution of food is the fair distribution of fresh water. There again, Americans consume and waste more water than anyone else…nearly 250 times more.

What about resources such as metals and hydrocarbons? Scientists say it’s imperative we discover new resources soon. We are looking, and every year we are finding new places to dig, bore, drain, and syphon earth’s natural resources for use in technology, medicine, and our general comfort, but currently, there is no way to accurately guess the sustainability levels of our methods and earth’s available resources, so science is exploring alternative resources.

There are hundreds of studies out there about the earth’s capability to support its population that vary so widely (from 500 million people to 1 trillion) that I won’t make any guesses. But I won’t be at all surprised if AI actually helps solve the problems of fair distribution of food, water, habitable land, and resources.

@Murrmurr you are lot more optimistic than I am.

I hope you are right, but I am skeptical. Always believed the old computer programmer's adage garbage in garbage out...
I'm certain that what needs to happen first is eliminating nefarious greed in government. That might take major uprisings on a global scale. There are enough people around to do that, so the question is Are there enough who actually care?

AI wasn’t even on my radar until about 8 months ago when I heard them talking about it on 60 minutes. Before that I thought it was some sci-fi idea. The more I hear about it the more concerned I am.
