Which is worse?

Which is worse at the grocery check out?
#1. The coupon lady with 312 coupons. All 312 will have to be scanned at least 4-8 times. 56 coupons will be expired. 48 will need the 16 digit coupon number manually entered by the clerk.
OR
#2.The check lady. She will attempt to cash an out-of-state check third party check, drawn on the National Bank Of Finland. ( No-she doesn't have a store check cashing card.) The manager will have to "OK" the check. He will have to come from a stock room, at least 3 states away.

Plus the lady with fifty coupons for a specific brand that she doesn't have in her cart such as coupon says Minute Maid orange juice and the shopper has Tropicana. The poor cashier has to put all the unwanted items in another cart. Then when the shopper almost gets checked out, she will present about ten different debit/credit cards/gift cards sayng, "could you use 10.00 from this card, $15.00 from this card" and after going through all that at least 4 of her cards get turned down so she starts having even more items put back. Poor clerk continues to add unwanted items to the basket. Items put back are juice, milk (necessities) and items kept are beer and a bag of cookies.

One reason why I shop at Whole Foods. This never happens there. :love_heart: I go to regular grocery stores for paper products and household cleaners and utensils but always use the self checkout line. My life is too busy to waste so much time in check out lines.

I haven't seen people using paper coupons or checks at the counter in quite some time. Many coupons are uploaded to a barcode thing you carry on your key chain.

One is as bad as the other. This is why many times I come home from my weekly grocery shopping with a major headache and in a grouchy mood. The self checkout never seems to work for me. I always end up waiting for the girl to come over and figure out what the problem is. Usually there is only one person in charge of 15 self checkouts so its not a time saver at all.

Today at Walmart is was the chatty cashier and a bottle of nail polish that wouldn't scan.

It took three employees to inspect the bottle of nail polish and finally, a supervisor punched in $2.00 so the line could start moving. The nail polish customer was so miffed at the delay she forgot one of her packages. The cashier took it upon herself to chase the woman down in the parking lot and give her the item. Meanwhile, I stood with several others waiting to check out. When I got home I noticed one of my purchases scanned for $3.86 more than advertised, that wiped out all of the savings from my trip to Walmart and has made me wonder if it is really worth the difference in price to put up with the Walmart experience.

To answer your original question everyone in front of me in the checkout line is annoying and everyone behind me seems to be pretty nice so I suppose it all balances out! :playful:

It's my entertainment
Watching the clerk, the customer, and the folks in line

Hard to choose between 1 & 2 but #1 edges out #2 by only a fraction.

We have several WalMart super stores here so some time shopping there can be really entertaining. There is a wealth of pics showing WalMart shoppers

Can I put in a bid for the lady in the 10-items-or-less checkout line with 36 cans of cat food, a 50-pound bag of litter, four 2-liter Diet Cokes, 6 frozen dinners, a tabloid magazine, the giant size bag of snack-sized candy bars, and a mop who says, when challenged by the person behind her, "Oh, I didn't notice that it was 10-items-or-less"?

I had another "delightful "Walmart experience this morning, between 7:30 and 8:00.
My social security gets deposited on the 3rd Wednesday monthly.
I withdrew 500.00 from my bank account and wished to put it on my prepaid debit card...there was 1 register with a person available, and no one at the customer service desk, gave the young man the cash,he scanned the card and up comes CSM ID needed for approval...there seemed to be a guy who seemed to be a manager, who passed by said something about a scan and disappeared behind a closed door,at this point I walked over to the service desk where EUREKA there was a human,I explained the problem, she then followed me over to the checkout said, yup, you need a manager, the amount is to high,at this point smoke is coming out my ears,Im now late for an appointment, and we're still waiting on mystery man behind door#1 and theres a man behind me just wanting to pay for his new microwave. ..
Finally this manager person comes out, wanders over ,inserts key and my transaction is finished.
I don't understand,I had cash,my card and my license to prove that I wasn't an imposter...
The customer service in this particular store has gone from bad to horrible!
Thanks for the opportunity to vent:)

Mine are uploaded to the grocers app on my IPhone....and they have checkout monitors that point us in the direction of empty lines or only one or two ppl in that line....Walmart does the same thing here....
But I know what you mean FB....been behind both those types in a Dollar Store with one register and no way out except to leave, which I did twice....I have no patience whatsoever for that BS.....

Same happens to me too Ruth....there's always a gliche of some kind or the damned thing is outta order with no sign up, ugh....

My blood boils when this happens....you have to really eyeball who's in front of who with less than 15 items b4 you even consider going thru....
any cashier or manager I brought this to their attention all said 'we cant turn people away because they have over the limit items'....
well guess what? I CAN and I DO....they can curse at me or whatever....I got thick skin and repeat what I just said so the next time they see me strolling up to their line with 100 items, they will know better...the selfish ones are just that and dont think out side of the box on how it really works to keep the liines moving and smoothly.

Sometimes the spotters are helpful in steering me to an open checkout line but usually, when I change lanes it always ends up taking longer for some reason, Murphy's law maybe.

I wonder why stores don't use a rope system like some banks where everyone waits in one line for the next open register.

I should learn to stay home shop online and fuss about the package tracking/delivery systems.

dont like queues much at all -so i would never have stood there seeing the bunch of coupons' rather put the basket down and walk out !!

I usually use the self checkout. Even if there are a few glitches, it usually moves faster than the regular line.
