Who Does It Better?

I hear you SeaBreeze and side with Don McLean too but here's what drove me to sit on the fence with the two:

I saw the film "Loving Vincent" last night and the story was so sad as we all know. So at the end, when Lianne La Havas sang "Starry Starry Night", her voice was hauntingly sad and yet beautiful at the same time which matched Van Gogh's life and the viewers feelings to a tee.

Don McLean deserves to win since he wrote it and sang it so well too, but his tempo is slightly more upbeat and wouldn't have sounded quite as appropriate for the life story portrayed in the movie that left the viewer more of a deep mourning for the loss of this loved one...especially at the end while the credits are rolling and you're wiping away the tears.

Smokey is the best, both as a performer and producer. He was Berry's right-hand man for awhile at Motown and had a lot to do with making The Temptations the stars that they were, which brings to mind that I always thought that The Temptations were the best out of Motown and had they not had so much inter group fighting going on, they would have been even better. I was fortunate enough to see and meet David Ruffin in Atlantic City just months before he died. What a performer!

My Favorite:

Oh, I agree oldman. David Ruffin nailed this song (in 1968 I think). Nothing can top this one. I won't even try. He died too young (50).
