Who Else Feels And Acts Much Younger Than Their True Age?

Can't ReMember
I'm 62. I'm an active high performance boater. I still go to rock concerts. Most of my friends are younger and I frankly can't relate to most people my age! Maybe staying healthy and open to new things is the key. I feel like there will hopefully be plenty of time to be old and, at age 62, I'm not there yet! Rock on seniors! :)

I know exactly how you feel. I'm happy to go generation traveling. I've still got kids at home so I'm up with modern pop culture. Most of the music on my IPod is from the 60's and 70's. But I love movie lore from the thirties and forties. Quite diverse interests.

Welcome from Canada! Frankly, I think old is a mindset. I have friends of all ages, love to belly dance, rollerblade etc.

I don't know what people my age are "supposed" to act and feel like. We are 61 and 78 and still go to rock concerts, often with another friend who is 70-something.

BTW, we remember the 60s music, but we also love current music.

True age? I don't car surf or buy condoms by the gross any more so that phase of my life or age is no more. What was fun and at times a little challenging seems a little crazy to me now. More mature things like hang gliding or zipping over the jungle in Costa Rica on a wire is about as age appropriate as I think for 76. If health problems aren't an issue then what does getting older mean now?

Great responses. Thanks. Glad I'm not the only one!

RubyK. It's not really that I like younger people. I just can't relate to men my age, 62, who act like old farts! I joined because there is good information on here and discussions about retirement and such. I took SS at age 62 because my business was failing.

I'm 79 next month and only gave up my motorbike (BNW Twin) the year before last, and them only because of arthritic thumbs.

My wife was a regular on the back until her second stroke in her 60s (we ignored the first one!).

Did used to raise a few eyebrows when we unstrapped our walking sticks!

Well, I will be 83 in July and can't really relate to many in my age group. Though I a not as physically active as I was just 10 years ago I can walk unaided. I am more tech Savy than most of my peer group and haven't stopped learning.

I may not be in perfect health but I do not feel my age either. I stay as active as possible and my grandchildren actually help me feel younger. I think what Shalimar says is very true, it's a mindset. Enjoy life, do what makes you happy. I think there is less of an age barrier than from other generations, people are living longer, staying healthier an attempting things that were once reserved for younger folk.

Age is largely a state of mind. If a person stays active, and enjoys their surroundings, and tries to keep up with the changing world, that is all that really matters.

In my head I am still 17, however my body tells me I am every one of my 77 years. If I had known I would live this long I would have been more careful of my back, I'd have told the kids to pick themselves up!

I'm 63, and physically, since I'm still pretty healthy and fairly active, I feel like I'm in my 50s. Mentally, I sometimes feel like I'm still in my 20s, enjoy rock music including the newer alternative rock I hear on the radio. Not reminded of my age that much, unless I look in the mirror with my readers on, lol. I'm certainly not the senior I thought I'd be in my 60s, from what I saw of older folks when I was a kid and teenager...and that's a good thing! Age is just a number, I think many of us over 50s are young at heart, we're a special generation for sure.

I turned 79 today and I swear I act like a kid at times. I enjoy new ideas and all the technical goodies available. I'm a little restricted as to things I can do, copd, but don't let that stand in my way of having fun. So boaterboi, rock on, and welcome.

Happy Birthday Pappy, hope you're having a wonderful day! :love_heart:

Actually, I feel much the same way. Women my age seem to have lost the zest for life and have turned negative. I do get along with women who are in their 30s and 40s because I have kept interested in life. So I know what you are talking about. It's like some old people have said, "I'm old so I'll just get out of your way."

Don't count on being forgiven for every stupid and selfish thing you do. What I wish I knew was one great dance move. I'm still stuck at "Crank That". But I wish I could break into a dance that would leave the twentysomething's saying "Dahmmm". Then again my Callie tattoo does that, I'm good.

I am not sure that I feel younger than I am but do feel that DH and I are both more aware of popular culture than some of our peers. We don't have kids at home but they talk to us often. As a member of a local embroidery guild and fiber arts guild, I am around creative people. In turn, I have introduced them to Japanese anime, Steampunk, Vikings and movies with subtitles. I'm sure they think I'm out of my mind sometimes but we have fun! One gal once asked me how I knew all this stuff - I don't know but another friend once accused us of being "so academic" so, I guess we love learning about new things.

My neighbor & I were recently at a nail product party hosted by two young women with babies. We started talking about anime, Japanese culture, mori girls, Lolita girls and "cons". When we stood up to leave one of the gals stopped us to say she had really enjoyed the party and that was so much fun to talk about these things with people who were over 12! I am pretty sure they were surprised the two gray heads even knew what they were talking about, much less making suggestions!

I'm not a big fan of all the new phone technology and would never have a "smart house" but I love history AND science fiction. My father, almost 92, has a computer and Kindle and regularly e-mails, reads the newspaper and magazines every day and is very aware of what is going on the in world. He does still think I "bet" on fantasy football even though I keep telling him, it is all for free - there is no betting. My best friend, in Las Vegas, has nursed a husband through a liver transplant and they are now regulars in some of the music clubs. She said she has really enjoyed the talent and getting to know the musicians.

All of that and I bake from scratch, grow my own herbs and iron my pillowcases and dishtowels. Keep learning!

Man can I relate to everything you said and especially the mirror part! That's why I've decided to be an 'evening owl'. I look better in soft, lamp light:eek: and I can't be a night owl because I'm too tired and need to go to bed earlier than I used to.
