Who Hates Roundabouts?

I actually like them. I remember when we rented cars in the UK and when you approach big cities, there were roundabouts after roundabouts after roundabouts. With the steering on the right side and a busy roundabout coming quickly you quickly learn what your made of. Sissies need to stay home.

In some of the wine counties that have a lot of tourists, some towns have put in roundabouts. These are not designed to speed traffic; instead they are deliberately designed to slow traffic down. Unfortunately, there is no consistency of visual design.

What can be tolerable to drive in the daytime can become extremely difficult at night, or in bad weather.

One town put a roundabout in as part of a freeway entrance ramp. Driving at dusk I had a difficult time following an unfamiliar twisting road, while accelerating onto the freeway and looking for oncoming traffic in the merging lane!

It depends on where they are and how busy the traffic gets. I no longer have to worry about driving them but when I did drive and would help my husband while we were on our road trips, I hated the way the highways looping to get into Baltimore and Washington, D.C. were configured. So confusing. So I stopped driving them. I'd go through part of Jersey and Delaware (which I swear only takes 10 minutes..LOL) and let him handle the Baltimore/DC areas.

They are better than stupid stop lights. Now those I HATE!!!!

Less accidents too...supposedly.?

I will be headed through the roundabout you've pictured later today, and its quite a challenge the first few times you approach it!
I've had the experience of stopping all the lanes of traffic going around the "Arc de Triomphe" roundabout in Paris, France, when I'd got a bit lost in rush hour traffic, and I panicked so headed for any street to get me off the roundabout, as a gendarme shook his head at the foolish Englishman!

The problem I see is that people don't know how to use them. I pass through one several times a day and most times see someone doing something they shouldn't.
