Have you ever revered or idolized someone? If so, why and how did they earn that level of admiration?

In my opinion, not one soul on earth is perfect. The closest I have come is my mom, who survived the abuse of an alcoholic, supported 3 kids by working 2 jobs, sacrificed a personal life to care for elderly aunts, and was always there when her kids needed a shoulder. Strong enough to speak her mind, but intelligent enough to get the point through without offense. May God bless her and keep her close. Got my intelligence, communication abilities, and cuteness from her.

Here she is at 18: and me at 13

For me it was JFK. I remembering growing up during the sixties when the Kennedys provided unparalleled optimism to the world. They were the hope of young and old alike. I also felt JFK handled the Cuban missile crisis adroitly. He could have saved the world by his decisions during that critical period in our history.

Never have. Number of people I have respected but no one I have revered or idolized, well, maybe myself.

My feelings for my mother are those of deep affection. Just thinking about her is enough to bring on the warm fuzzies and also to give me the strength and courage I need in tough times, but I don't revere her. I love her and always will.

My reverence is for those saintly people who dedicate themselves to serving others and who really make a difference.

One who comes to mind is William Wilberforce (1759 – 1833), the English parliamentarian who campaigned against the vested interests of the moneyed class until he was finally successful in passing legislation that ended the English slave trade. I am in awe of his tenacity and revere his dedication to reform.

I also revere Dr Catherine Hamlin who at 94 still runs the fistula hospital in Addis Ababa that she and her late husband established to repair damage caused by child birth for young African women. Her compassion is truly inspiring.

Steve McQueen Actor, that most always played the humble hero, stunt man, motorcyclist, horesman, car racer. He was one of Bruce Lee's pallbearers.
Bruce Lee Extremely talented, disciplined, and intelligent. Always humbly confident. Overcame and accomplished so much.
Chuck Norris Extremely talented, disciplined, and intelligent. Always humbly confident. Got his start in martial arts while in the Air Force - I'm an Air Force vet. He was one of Bruce Lee's pallbearers.
