Who is controlling us ?

I hear you and it is definitely worth some thought but I think more importantly we need to expand our horizons and look at this on a global scale. For the last two years it seems that everyday we as human beings loose more and more of our civil rights in the name of one thing or another. As long as we allow this to occur we are passively giving up our rights as humans. We may already be passed the tipping point. I also ask the question "who is controlling us?" but on a much larger scale. It scares the living beejeezus out of me. Not for myself but for the youngins. So if this is the problem what is the solution?

I don't feel "controlled". I don't use any of the facebook/twitter, etc., sites, and this site is probably the closest I get to "social media". I use the internet primarily for news, learning how to fix things, and shopping.
I suspect that if you tried to speak your mind, really speak your mind, you'd soon discover that you are , indeed... controlled.
Treading on thin ice here. Politics are forbidden.

This site does control the speech, I will get in trouble for this but I was here probably a couple of years or so ago. My interest at that time was politics, not only was I told not to talk about politics but one of my posts was changed. So I left, when I came back the first thing I read was "No politics"...yet I notice some folks slip politics into their posts and get away with it. So I assume who ever is the admin is fine with some political ideas, or some posters.

Never were truer words spoken.

These days with so many things going on it is next to impossible to have a conversation that is not connected in some way shape or form by the P word.

Remember what Thomas Jefferson said, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of tyrants and patriots".

I have no crystal ball , nor do I have any skill at reading tea leaves, but things could get real nasty … sooner rather than later.

Funny I was just reading quotes by Ben Franklin. Come to think of it when I give an answer to a post, not just on here but anywhere. I kind of subconsciously pick my words so as to not sound to radical. I do not want to hear the gentle rap rap rapping while I am nearly napping at my chamber door. Let me say here that I am to dang old to be much of a radical but what I just described is a good analogy of Tyranny. Of course I am speaking on a larger scale than this forum. Hmmm I will have to think about that in more depth.

Constitutionally, Freedom of Speech means Governmental interference and does not apply to private business, like Google. You know that, I'm sure.
Thank you for pointing out what should be obvious, some people don't grasp the concept.

America is freer now than it has ever been. Many people fail to understand that "your freedoms end where another person's freedoms begin". This shouldn't require explanation.

I should have also said that American politics is not nearly as interesting as it was . But always more interesting than ours. 6 weeks and our dull as dirt campaigns are over.

Are you joking ?
You must be having entirely different life experiences than I.
Back when I first started driving, in 1963, seeing blue/red lights in my rear view mirror I never felt my life was in any jeopardy. Today, the slightest twitch can get you shot dead.

I usually try to "refrain" speaking my mind....especially in recent times with this Corona Virus running so rampant. When I come across a message that contains some nonsense, I just move on....usually without responding to the post. There are a couple of posters who I've put on Ignore, rather than reading their BS.

{shrug} Am I the only one who remembers George Carlin's "7 Dirty Words You Can't Say on TV"? And how some words were allowed in some circumstances but not others.

"You can ****** your finger, but you can't finger your ******" is a classic

Generally most social media platforms such as Google, AOL, Yahoo, Microsoft, etc including special interest blogs, sites and forums are open to anyone including free or paid subscription websites so it is expected that any member or even potential member not only read but fully understand the sites TOS and FAQ sections.

SF has one at the bottom of the subforum homepage including a new subforum addressing deleted and/or moved threads and post. Generally offensive threads or post are deleted by member complaint or a number of member complaints, continued infractions especially after warning by site owners, administrators and moderators.

The now defunct TOPIX forum used shadow banning exclusively. Some uninformed social media members who avoid constant banning use free monthly timed IP hiders and VPNs forget to watch the limits then when they have no more free time their next post displays their original IP address alerts the software program and the offender is back to square one. The lack of Keyword software programs and administrator rejections for spamming, flaming, threats and hard core or abnormal sexually suggestive content especially targeting minors can open the website to legal action and/or criminal penalty.

Some forums have no qualms about letting some of the more aggressive members who complain about harsh treatment and penalties that that particular website is not a democracy. Food for thought.
