Who Knew? Some Fun Facts

There is a Scottish village, in the Italian Alps, where they
speak, Scottish Gaelic and wear tartan clothes, it is called
Gurro.

However, during the 16th century, while fleeing the aftermath of the
Battle of Pavia, blizzards meant that many Scottish troops returning
home had to bed in at Gurro for the winter.

I never knew this and I have been to Italy many, many times.

I got the original story from the Daily Record, a Scottish Newspaper.

Mike.
Oh, how I'd love to visit here. Maybe in my next life.

Australian Wallabies in Scotland!
This will interest our Australian friends, more than
others, I think.

There is on Loch Lomond, Inchconnachan Island,
where Australian Wallabies have been living since
the 1940s, introduced, by Fiona Colquhoun.

The Wallabies on Inchconnachan Island are red-necked
wallabies, which are native to Australia. The wallabies on
the island were originally brought over in the 1940s
by Fiona Colquhoun (A Scottish clan that’s owned much
of Luss and the surrounding area for a long time) as part
of a private collection
, and they have since established
a self-sustaining population on the island!
If you didn’t know, a wallaby is a small or middle-sized
macropod native to Australia and New Guinea, with
introduced populations in New Zealand. The fact they’ve
made a life here on one of our Scottish islands is fascinating!

Mike,

There is a little-known book about the Titanic sinking written from the iceberg's point of view.
I wanted to add, it's by a pretty famous Titanic scholar before they got rose to prominence. I prefer not to disclose the name. I'm not trying to be mysterious, just giving some context.

Why would you not disclose the author if you can identify who wrote it? I can't find anything about "Confessions of an Iceberg" via search engines.

I'm not sure what their preferences are with respect to anonymity. I could reach out to them, but I prefer not to. I did a search, too, and didn't find anything, and I assume that's deliberate.

Edited to add: I mentioned that it's a well-known author only to give the post some legitimacy, so people wouldn't think it was written by a kid or something like that.

Obamacare started in Massachusetts. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010, widely known as "Obamacare," drew significant inspiration and many of its core features from the Massachusetts state Health Care Reform Act of 2006. The Massachusetts law demonstrated that a comprehensive reform effort could significantly reduce the uninsured rate and improve access to care.

Fun fact: The Massachusetts law was often dubbed "Romneycare" because it was signed into law by then-Governor Mitt Romney, a Republican.

I do recall that, now that you bring it up.

I did not know this. I have local honey in my tea. Alway using a metal spoon 🥄
Did you know that one of the world's first coins had a bee symbol?
Did you know that honey contains live enzymes?
Did you know that in contact with a metal spoon, these enzymes die? The best way to eat honey is with a wooden spoon; if you can't find one, use a plastic spoon.
Did you know that honey contains a substance that helps the brain work better?
Did you know that honey is one of the few foods on earth that alone can sustain human life?
Did you know that bees saved people from starvation in Africa?
That a spoonful of honey is enough to keep a man alive for 24 hours?
Did you know that propolis produced by bees is one of the most powerful natural antibiotics?
Did you know that honey has no expiry date?
Did you know that the bodies of the world's greatest emperors were buried in gold coffins, then covered in honey to prevent putrefaction?
Did you know that the term "Honeymoon" (honeymoon) comes from the fact that the bride and groom consumed honey for fertility after their marriage?
Did you know that a bee lives less than 40 days, visits at least 1000 flowers and produces less than a teaspoon of honey, but for her it is the work of a lifetime.
Thank you precious bees!

Janet Jackson's song "Rhythm Nation" can cause some laptops to crash, even if it's played in the vicinity of the device, and not on the device.

The song uses a frequency that resonates with the laptop's hard drive, interrupting normal operation and causing the system to crash.

It mainly effects laptops produced in 2005. Since 2022, all laptops have a factory-installed fix (patch).

Marshall Crenshaw's high school band was called "Astigfa," which is the first letter of each sentence of "A splendid time is guaranteed for all," a line from the Beatles song "Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite!", one of my own personal faves.
