Who Remembers Edith Piaf?

My French is an embarrassment but I always loved Edith Piaf. My Dad was a big fan so he played her records through the house. One of those timeless voices.

I love Edith Piaf! I had two of her albums, but some songs were duplicated. I once read a little about her life back in the late 70's but I don't remember much except that she was once very poor.

Even people who don't know her, recognize her song "La Vie En Rose".

I've read much about her life. Information about her birth parents is sketchy. Perhaps Edith was exaggerating when she said she was born literally in the street with a policeman as midwife...perhaps not. I believe her parents were performers. I also recall her having a series of rather disastrous relationships. She sang from the heart.

Wonderful, wonderful singer and performer!

I remember seeing her in a tv programme towards the end of her life. She was on stage with a lesser performer, (maybe a relative), she took over the singing showing everyone how it should be done. My niece, now in her twenties and a teacher living in France who also performs in a band in a very modest way (and has a beautiful voice herself), covers some Edith Piaf songs. However, even with family bias you could not pretend my nieces stage presence compares in any way, so Piaf is a legend for very good reasons.
