Who's your favorite author?

This is really difficult for me because I read alot of books, sorry can't pick just 1,non fiction category was easier for me
fiction-late Pat Conroy,Kristin Hannah
non fiction-David McCullough,Jon Mecham-Presidential historians both Pulitzer Prize winners

I love Preston and Child books. They combine mystery with adventure and they are so descriptive that you feel you are really there. I've read several of their books, but I haven't read much lately. I have a couple of their books on my bookshelf waiting for me. Just haven't been in the mood, but I know that will change in the winter months.

On edit: One of their books, Relic, was made into a movie.

1. Fiction - Harlan Ellison - Mainly short stories, speculative fiction and many TV screenplays

2. Non-Fiction - I'm generally more interested in the subject than the writing, but certainly some authors are much better than others. I wouldn't say I have favorite authors but I would say I have favorite books.

@-Oy- I agree Terry Prachett is very funny; I also though Jasper Ffoyd's "Tuesday Next" series (starting with The Eyre Affair) was brilliant. The chapter where the characters of Wuthering Heights had to go to anger management therapy was worth the whole book IMO =)
Jane Austen
Charlotte Bronte (Jane Eyre)
O' Henry
Mark Twain
Trollop
(can you tell I was born in the wrong century?!) hahaha

Favorite Author...Jeffery Archer.

Maggie Osborne
is another favorite. Light entertaining reading and always a good story.

I prefer Historical novels based on fact.

Long family sagas like Archers remarkable 7 book series The Clifton Chronicles is my most memorable.
Following protagonist Harry Clifton, the series brings to life the key historical and political events of the 20th century over the course of one family's story; their triumphs and their tragedies.

I also loved the works of Eugenia Price with her marvelous historical fiction books of the old south.

CLR Doughtery for his Caribbean mysteries
Hope Callaghan for her cozy mysteries featuring 5 different groups of characters
Dale Brown and Stephen Coonts for techno/ aviation related stories
Clive Cussler for oceanic based stories

I don't know. I've lived a long time and have crossed paths with many
Authors, a number of them were favorites. Right now my two favorite
authors are C.J Petit and Vivian Sinclair, self published authors on Amazon.
Above are fiction.
Herman Wouk for non-fiction.

IMHO These two authors, one was and one still is creative geniuses in their own right.

My all time favorites are

Tom Clancy: The Hunt For Red October

Steven Spielberg: Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Everyone please stay safe and enjoy your weekend.
OMG!!!! I have seen the movie so many times I even know the Russian dialogue. My favorite quote from the movie is at the end, when Ramius says,"The sea will grant each man new hope". My wife (Kayelle) and I go to a place only known by locals to look out over the Pacific Ocean in these trying times and it settles us.

I almost feel like a dope in comparison to you guys.. the only author anyone's mentioned that I've read is Herman Wouk.
I have favorite topics, and favorite books, more than favorite authors.
