Why 80% of Americans Live East of This Line

I like where I live here in Virginia, but it is very crowded and every weekend some organization is having a rally in D.D., so it gets very busy on weekends.

It was interesting reading Louis L'Amour about how people would trek west and after leaving Missouri the land just "Burst wide open" and was so big, it actually scared those who were used to "city living"
I never thought of myself as a city slicker, I grew up on a big five acre lot in West Virginia, surrounded by trees. I then lived in cities or suburbs for many years.

Yet, when we first moved to this area 20 years ago, we chose a beautiful house in a nice sub-division in the country. The view out the back was flat Ohio fields as far as the eye could see, in three directions. To my surprise it gave me the willies and for the five years I lived there I never got used to it.
