other than the missing evolutionary link between Ape and Man.

I doubt that most astronomers are interested in alien life anywhere. They have much more realistic
things to work on. It gets on TV because producers think viewers are interested and will watch it.
Working astronomers probably have no practical interest--and nothing new has happened to talk about
as far as I know--in decades.
