Why are some afraid of technology?

Modern technology is surpassing our moral compass.

I kind of despise AI because I've watched it over the past generation transform normal people into spineless cowards who cannot think or do or create for themselves. People have become so dominated, they are willing to believe anything AI may create for them and accept it fearfully as reality because independent thought is neither welcome nor tolerated in this AI generated dystopian world.

Control = power. It can make you happier too. There are still real people in the world and they are interesting. Why live in slavery to and fear of AI and the 'world' it is creating for us. Are we not the operant power here still? Ultimately we are.

People's feelings about advancing technology... well that's an enormous subject and individuals have various points of view. The topic is huge because it's not simply a technical or simple subject. It involves all sorts of information, communication, social, cultural, moral, even political dimensions (and more).

I don't knock the internet, because many benefits have come from it. But, for one example of the dark side, someone started a new thread today about an international fraud using internet communication to scam nearly 4 billion dollars from Americans in the past year.

I am not afraid of technology. I just like to choose to use what technology I use. Just because it exists does not mean I have use it or all of it.

First, a pet peeve . . . the use of the word "technology" with the assumption that it is synonymous with "computer technology". Technology simply means the application of scientific knowledge to any particular area of endeavor, e.g, medical technology, materials technology, food technology. (Thanks. I feel better now. )

The definition of "artificial intelligence" seems to be quite loose and is certainly fluid. What is most commonly thought of as AI has (maybe) been around for about a decade. The Cambridge Dictionary offers: "the use or study of computer systems or machines that have some of the qualities that the human brain has, such as the ability to interpret and produce language in a way that seems human, recognize or create images, solve problems, and learn form data supplied to them."

To me, that's way too vague to be useful for any real purpose other than marketing.

As long as my GPS keeps telling me to turn right in the middle of a bridge, I'm not terribly concerned.

Yes. I know we have a better vacuum cleaner than my mum had. And I've got a better circular saw, table saw, portable drill, welding equipment, snowblower, etc than my dad's generation was equipped with. Not to mention our sound system for music, and LED lights.

This any many other studies are all aligning to show that late-stage urbanization strongly correlates with dramatically dropping base-I.Q. (100) levels. The further people are from the Earth, the dumber they are getting.

The Eloi are suggested to be the descendants of a privileged, surface-dwelling, upper class, which once dominated the subterranean working class.

This is what we should be worrying about. Sadly, it seems to be too late already.
