Paintings, sculptures or whatever. Some artists go through life working their art then sometime either late in their lives or after they die they are suddenly declared great artists. Who declares that? Is it done by committee? Also, why do prices of great artworks fluctuate?

It depends on how people feel about things. I watch a lot of antique programmes and it's difficult to put a value on items for sale because the value depends on the interest of the buyers. No matter how beautiful an object is, if no-one wants to buy it, it's worth nothing.

A new day, a new record price for a Banksy artwork it seems. Game Changer became the most expensive Banksy painting ever sold at auction when it achieved £16.8M at Christie's London on March 23rd 2021, on the first anniversary of the UK's lockdown.

With under bidders from the Virgin Islands, Singapore and online, Game Changer eventually sold to a telephone bidder with Christie’s specialist Tessa Lord in the London saleroom. “It’s a game changer in every sense,” stated the auctioneer, Jussi Pylkkänen.
