Why do we have to have daylight savings time?

I hate it so much, particularly the spring forward one. The whole thing messes with my circadian rhythm. It takes months to get the dog's schedule changed.

Yesterday, none of us remembered. My husband, who is the music leader for his church, missed the whole service.

My son was an hour late for work, ruining a perfect twenty-year record of never being late.

What are we supposed to do now? Sit and worry about it for an entire year so that it wont happen again?

If you have a smart phone that automatically re sets the time and therefore any alarms and you are not late for anything.

I like daylight saving- the extra hour of daylight in the evening is great. But mornings would be too dark in winter if we didn't change back.
My body time adjusts after a few days. And my dog's schedule is flexible anyway so doesn't seem to have any impact on her.

The Pastor noted before his sermon that it appeared some members of the congregation were missing due to not moving their clocks ahead. I think about 10-15 were missing from the 8am service. I like the extra hour of daylight in the summer.

No one is getting any extra sun and the days are not any longer! It has zero effect on the solar system! Those of you who wanted more or less sunshine during your waking hours could have simply got up earlier or later instead of making the whole world change for your particular tastes.

This is not a matter of setting alarms at our house. No one sets them. My son and I were both up for the day yesterday from about 4 am as we usually are. We were sitting here talking long before he was due at work. Our clocks had not been changed. My computer had not changed because, while trying to fix something, my husband had turned off the automatic daylight saving button, but I never go by the time on this thing anyway, so wouldn't have noticed.

What next? Will we all have to throw out our calendars because someone wants all the months to have 28 days. Maybe no Mondays?

Most assume you get more sun light with Saving Time, but it's primarily the earth's orbit and rotational axis that causes more sun light in summer, no matter what time your clocks say.- DUH, that's why it's warm and sunny in summer!!!!!!!
And as to be able to do things later in the evening with Saving Time, I predict that someone, in the distant future will invent a way to have light anywhere after sunset. If they ever do, I think they should call it a "light bulb".
The only reason we have DST; is some believe we spend more money if it's light outside.

Created by an idea falsely credited to Ben Franklin back in the 1700's. Very disruptive whose time has come and went. In the 1700's all lighting was done by candlelight, so it made sense to add an hour of daylight. But that was the 1700's, in today's society things change. There has been a lot of talk about abolishing the 250 year old idea. It's time!

Thinking about doesn't really count. There are 2, Hawaii and Arizona that don't change at this point.

"Many think that daylight saving time was conceived to give farmers an extra hour of sunlight to till their fields, but this is a common misconception. In fact, farmers have long been opposed to springing forward and falling back, since it throws off their usual harvesting schedule.

The real reasons for daylight saving are based on energy conservation and a desire to match daylight hours to the times when most people are awake. The idea dates back to 1895 when entomologist George Vernon Hudson unsuccessfully proposed an annual two-hour time shift to the Royal Society of New Zealand.

Ten years later, the British construction magnate William Willett picked up where Hudson left off when he argued that the United Kingdom should adjust their clocks by 80 minutes each spring and fall to give people more time to enjoy daytime recreation. Willett was a tireless advocate of what he called “Summer Time,” but his idea never made it through Parliament."

Life starts around 9 PM MT with ball games and stuff outdoors. The shorter the sunlight day the sooner
They can get outdoors at night when its rapidly cooling down from 117F 4PM highs.

It was started so golfers could play golf after 3 PM and get in 18 holes. Baseball could get in double headers.
schools could have Tennis, Baseball, girls sprots, Fast Pitch Softball and track after school with adequate light.
People less likely to hit deer on the highways.

Why would ones who fly everywhere give a dam about that.

I grew up on the farm, the day started shortly before sunup and ended shortly after dark.
Now it is sort of a Seasonal thing, summers spent on HD's enjoying the open roads.
The house went quiet after the evening news. Coffee Hot and Iced, Hot / Iced Tea were the go-to thing!
Lots of sammiches and cookies.

Or . . . those who don't like DST can just get up an hour later and go to be an hour earlier. ;)
Yes but that wouldn't infringe on existing time and cause some innocent person to lose their job.

I doubt DST will be abolished. As many people that hate it, there is an equal number who love it. It would have to legally be changed back to either standard or permanent DST. I, personally, don't like the shifting twice a year but learned to live with it.

Time should move ahead another hour in the fall so people don't have to drive home from work after dark.
It could jump forward at noon, no one does anything then anyway and back at midnight. No one does anything then.
People safer, bars close earlier.

People have been squawking and crying about this for years. I think it's so silly to complain. It's just twice a year that you change your clocks. My God, there a lot of more important things to complain about. If New York does away with it, fine. If they don't, who cares? When you think of all of the bad things that happened during the course of a year, you never think about having to change the time on your clocks twice during the year

Says the person with the "go away snow so we can have baseball" signature. If we can only talk about children starving in Africa this board is going to get really small.

The reason I'm so mad about this is that it caused my son to be late for work after a perfect record over 20 years. He doesn't have a whole lot to be proud of, no wife, no children, no house of his own and not the career he planned on back when he was in college with a four point average. All he has is his job and he takes it seriously.

Sorry to bother all you happy people with your extra long sunny days. (and cat videos .)
