Why I am still using Windows 7

I've thought about doing that for so long!! Should have tried it when I was younger and more techy! Glad to hear you've had success!!!!
Today's Linux systems don't require much tech savvy, just the willingness to get accustomed to unfamiliar arrangements, kind of like going from one version of Windows to the next.

I'm still running it. My Windows 7 laptop is an extra device, not the main one I use, but at least once a week I turn it on, and have had no issues.*

Purely by chance, Yesterday I was visiting the town of Stonehaven and discovered that a landscape photo of the local Dunnottar Castle was used as an official wallpaper for Windows 7.
Stonehaven - known locally as 'Stoney' is a few miles south of Aberdeen in N.E Scotland.

New systems are faster and more secure, but I am so used to Windows 7 and how it works. My desktop is all connected and set up they way I want it. If I get a new system, I'd feel like this girl in the photo trying to set it up.

Good for you. I'm on Windows 10, and will remain there.

People are obsessed with having the latest operating system. Yet little of what we actually use these devices for is built into the OS - it's about apps. Also, so many infections from nefarious sources are self-inflicted.

Use your brain, and don't change the latest icon. ;)

I envy you still having Windows 7. I made the mistake of letting my old laptop update and got so frustrated that the newer Windows required a paid subscription to use the previously free old simple games. No more Microsoft for me after that experience.

I loved win7. I played a great ⛳ game, and wrote lots of 🎶. Both were lost when I upgraded to win10.
My dears- I wish I'd seen these posts earlier. Like you, I was bereft at the loss of my the original Windows game package, and detested the updated games packages. Same for Windows 11.

After some Internet sleuthing, I found this wonderful site

The old game pack works perfectly on my Window 10 and 11 computers/laptops.

I had found and downloaded the classic games but after 30 days the stupid updated Microsoft windows blocked them from being run. It waited until I was past the date where I could uninstall the newer version of windows. It was very upsetting at the time.

I've had no problems with the Win 7 games on my Win 10 & 11 computers despite dozens of MS windows updates. I wonder if you're using the same zip file I used. There are complete instructions for downloading and opening them on the Groovy Post site at the link I shared.

For what it's worth, I've subscribed to Groovypost.com's newsletter for years and fully trust them. I realize that I'm a stranger to you, but if hacking into someone's computer was my aim, given that I've been very active on Senior Forums for 8 years, it would sure be a long con...

I gave up my last Windows computer when my daughter gave me my first iPad, back around 2011. I have loved iPads since then, and upgraded as needed, and would never go back to Windows for any reason.
If I didn't have the iPad, I would use a Chromebook. I think that they are the ultimate simple computer for seniors.

A Chromebook is easy to use, has its own security and keeps it updated with no effort from you, doesn’t cost very much to own one, and can last almost forever.
They were for school kids at first, but now they make the Chromebooks in all sizes and styles, and there is a good fit for just about anyone. They come as a desktop, laptop, and even as a tablet, and all different sizes. The operating system is not that hard to get used to, and is easy to use.

The main thing about a Chromebook is that it stores everything in the google cloud, so it does not have a large internal storage; so if a person needs to have a large storage area on the computer, they can’t do it unless they use a thumb drive of some sort.
But for everyday things like forums, email, photos, and such as that, it works fine.
