Why I hate spring cleaning

I mostly keep up with everything on a daily basis. Except full dusting. Once a month-ish. Sometimes once every other month. @Georgiagranny and I are devout members of the sacred Avoid Dusting as Long As Possible religion, and wouldn't think of annoying our gods.

Roomba automatically runs twice a week, bless its little electronic heart. Sometimes I add a third day and it has yet to complain. I wash the floors at least once a week and have no trouble keeping up with laundry.

I've ditched most tchotchkes and dust collectors over the years, probably own less than 1/100th of Deb's collection.

My deep cleaning time is mid-November. Everything comes off the shelves, gets bathed, dried, and put back onto clean shelves. Mostly wine and other crystal glasses, vases, platters and serving dishes. Photo frames get cleaned with a damp cloth. Everything sparkles for the holidays.

Deb, have you ever tried putting them in a towel lined clothes hamper, taking them to the kitchen, dipping and swishing each one in a sink of Dawn dishwater, placing them back in the hamper? It might be less tedious than dry dusting each one.

I find dry dusting isn't that effective. The dust just flies up and resettles fairly quickly.

Why not put them all in the dishwasher.
It’s WAY easier.

Most obviously - the effort to move and dust every knickknack and replace it. However, I always manage to break something. Yesterday it was a solar powered dancing flower that was given to me by a co-worker years ago. I knocked it off the window sill when replacing a curtain I had taken down. The lacy fabric caught on it somewhere and it smashed on the floor. Today I was dusting a chalk (or plaster) Scottie figurine and its ear broke in 3 pieces and I can't figure out how they fit back together so I might glue them.

Broken accidently on purpose? 😁

The snuff bottle. 🤔

I have shelves full of items that are supposedly worth a great deal but I have trouble finding buyers that share my opinion. 😉
So true... everyone thinks their stuff is valuable, but that is usually a pipe dream.

And... when we die, all those "precious collectables" hit the dumpster.
