Why I'm Here

Welcome!!! First of all, I am so sorry for your losses 💕. So much to deal with and then just having to do right now while the whole world is turned upside down...too much. I honestly know nothing about retirement communities so can’t help you there, but truly hope you take your time and don’t rush into anything until you are 100% sure.

I'm sorry I don't have specific advice but would recommend the website city-data dot com. They have forums for individual states. You just need to sign up with a user name. I forgot my old account but had posted there a few times. You can get information from real people living in the area. I think it's a good site for information.

One year ago, I lived happily in a large townhouse in Reston VA with a wife and two cats. The wife is goBut ne, the cats have given for care to two loving persons (and both cats are flourishing), and I am selling my house. For the past four months, I have been adjusting to life in a senior living community (my first) during a significant pandemic (my first), and (surprise, surprise) I am NOT flourishing. For a variety of reasons, I feel that I need to move to a different community in a different part of the country. So I'm looking for desirable senior communities (independent living) in desirable parts of the country. All suggestions welcome.
First of all, welcome to our forum! And I'm so sorry for your loss. And thank you, as an animal lover, that you have ensured a loving home for your kitties.

I lost my husband 17 years ago. In the first few months following, the advice I heard was not to consider any serious life changing decisions for at least a year.

I can understand your need to relocate. A change of scenery after a life loss can be very healing, and liberating. Listen to your heart, it will never lead you astray.

I am so sorry for your loss. I live in a senior living apartment building which is different from a community. You are basically on your own and can make friends with others in the building or not. It is no different than having your own apartment anywhere else. I moved from a house in the country to this apartment in the downtown of a small city and that was the change I needed.

Welcome to Senior Forums! I am sure others here can share their experiences to help you.
